Uisce Éireann has submitted a planning application for proposed upgrades to Staleen Water Treatment Plant in Co. Meath.
If approved, the project is expected to benefit more than 70,000 customers across Meath and Louth by improving the reliability and resilience of the drinking water supply.
Uisce Éireann says the proposed works are intended to support the long-term water needs of communities across both counties.

A lifebuoy ring at Dawson’s Demesne in Ardee has been thrown into the River Dee, prompting strong criticism from Sinn Féin Councillor Pearse McGeough.
Cllr McGeough described those responsible as “morons” and said there was no excuse for interfering with life-saving equipment, particularly during the current spell of hot weather when more people may be near rivers and waterways.
He is urging people to report damaged or vandalised safety equipment immediately.

Scam warning for Louth residents
Louth County Council is warning people to be vigilant following reports of individuals calling to homes claiming to be carrying out energy upgrade works on behalf of the Council.
Council tenants will always receive advance notice before planned works, while Council staff and authorised contractors will carry official identification.
The Council has also stressed that it does not carry out energy upgrades, surveys, or maintenance works in privately owned homes.
Anyone with concerns should contact Louth County Council on 042 933 5457 or An Garda Síochána.
Residents are being asked to share the warning, particularly with older or more vulnerable family members and neighbours.

One of the most remarkable escape stories in Irish history will be brought to life in Slane tonight as part of the John Boyle O’Reilly Festival.
Historian and filmmaker Marcus Howard will present an illustrated talk at Netterville House at 7pm, telling the story of Boyle O’Reilly’s escape from a British penal colony in Western Australia and his later role in the legendary Catalpa Rescue.
The talk will also explore the role of Drogheda-born John Breslin, who helped infiltrate Fremantle Prison and coordinate the daring rescue.

A surprise day out turned into a memorable spin along the Boyne for a group of friends from Clogherhead.
Noele McEvoy treated five of her friends to a trishaw trip with Drogheda and District Services for Older People, travelling from Dominic’s Park out to Oldbridge House for tea and a visit to the gardens.
The trishaw service is available to nursing homes, groups and individuals looking for a different way to enjoy Drogheda and the Boyne Valley.

A new Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programme has been launched in Drogheda and Dundalk, with dedicated Development Officers appointed to support communities in both towns.
The programme aims to reduce health inequalities and support healthier lives through local, community-led projects and targeted investment.
It will bring together residents, community groups, voluntary organisations, and local agencies to identify priorities and respond to local needs.

Major changes are being proposed for the route between George’s Street, Drogheda Train Station, and Marsh Road as part of a new Active Travel scheme.
The plans include new cycle paths and crossings, changes to traffic layouts, and the removal of eight parking spaces on John Street.
Charlie Kinsella has raised concerns about the proposals and is encouraging local residents, businesses, and commuters to have their say before 1st September.

Louth County Council has confirmed that the dead trees on West Street are to be removed.
The Council says ground contamination may have contributed to their decline and that permanent replanting in the existing tree pits would require major works.
As a temporary solution, large planted tree containers are planned for West Street in the coming months while longer-term options are considered.

Water network upgrades are continuing across Drogheda, with more than 1,200 homes set to benefit by the end of this year.
Uisce Éireann is replacing ageing backyard services and installing 5.6km of new water mains across areas including Moneymore, Lagavoreen, and Yellowbatter.
Further works are also underway in Sunnyside Cottages, St Mary’s Villas, Carmelite Cottages, and Clintons Lane, where 84 homes are due to be connected to 540 metres of new pipe.
The work is designed to reduce leaks, improve water pressure, and strengthen the reliability of the local supply.
