A heady mix of World-Leading Neuroscientists, Educationalists, Health Policy Makers, Artists and Innovators explore the brain and creativity.

Creative Brain Week is a Global Brain Health Institute initiative at Trinity College Dublin Creativity arises in the brain and is everyone’s biggest asset – from solving daily problems to improving our health and wellbeing – creating innovations that can shape the lives of millions. Creative Brain Week is an exploration of how brain science and creativity collide to seed new ideas in social development, technology, entrepreneurship, culture, wellbeing, and physical, mental and brain health across the life cycle. Creativity is everyone’s asset, a critical skill for the coming century, which can be nudged, nurtured and enhanced. We’re establishing an annual event to explore and promote the inter-disciplinary neuroscience of creativity and the brain and all its practical applications, while at the same time highlighting the importance of Ireland in this emergent field. The inaugural event featuring exhibitions and talks by scientists, artists and innovators engages the public taking place across the digital and physical Campus of Trinity College Dublin and out into the heart of the City between March 12th and March 16th 2022. It will establish an annual week of events, supported across Trinity College Dublin departments and institutes, which over the coming years will explore and promote the relationships between creativity, the brain and all areas of our lives. It will connect inspiring experience and knowledge from academic and public practice.

Global Creative Brain Weeks are a fast developing global ecology of knowledge, nuance and inspiration.

Global Creative Brain Week's are usually led by an Atlantic Fellow working in their home country, supported by Dominic Campbell working remotely. This approach ensured that Global Creative Brain Weeks were built from local expertise and knowledge, responding to local challenges, and rooted in equitable information exchange with developments in Ireland. This became “Thematically Connected, Locally Informed” a fourth ingredient in Creative Brain Week’s values driven “recipe” alongside “Nothing About Us Without Us”, “No Tell Without A Show, No Show Without A Tell” and “Each One Teach One”.

An asset based community development approach has been adapted to ensure the team in each location work to their strengths. The difference between countries and location, and the expertise and experience of each team’s leadership, make this enriched diversity of approaches and practices possible. As they mature it's becoming a unique and vital ecosystem of generous knowledge making and practical information exchange.

We are very excited that there are three Creative Brain Weeks happening in the next few months: Australia (27-30 August) (https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/creative-brain-week-brisbane-2026-4854570?msockid=013563666fa960b0203274786ed761b4), Singapore (1-5 September) and Mexico (14-16 October) (https://insp.mx/avisos/semana-del-cerebro-creativo-mexico-2026).

Pratchett Prize winner this year is: ASBESTOS with ROSS KILLEEN for Don't Forget to Remember, a moving live performance by the artist Asbestos, which was in the National Gallery of Ireland in January 2025.

Over the course of one weekend, Asbestos systematically erased 15 chalk portraits on blackboards. Each board depicts a memory of his mother Helena, who has Alzheimer’s. The performance was accompanied by a live sound installation, created in collaboration with artist and composer, Cian Walker. A recording of Helena's voice was played and recorded over again and again until it gently fades away; all a testament to the fragility of her memories, slowly disappearing from Alzheimer’s.

This exceptional event was captured in a film Don't Forget to Remember, which forms part of this year's www.creativebrainweek.com exhibition - free to attend in the Naughton Institute in Trinity College Dublin Atlantic Fellows
