Liz Roche Liz Roche Company is one of Ireland’s leading contemporary dance companies. Liz Roche Liz Roche Company is strategically funded by the Arts Council.

Liz Roche Company has been presenting evocative and compelling contemporary dance on Irish and International stages for over 15 years. Unanimously appreciated for its physicality, poetic strength and the cleverness of its intuitive collaborations with other art-forms, the company has become a leading light in the development of contemporary dance in Ireland. Currently Company-in-Residence at Dublin Dance Festival and the Civic Theatre, the work itself explores themes of shared memory, image, embodiment, migration, politics and family, connecting itself to poetry, visual art and literature as sources of inspiration. In 2015 the company premiered Bastard Amber, a co-production between the Abbey Theatre and Dublin Dance Festival. It was a historic moment for dance in Ireland, the first time ever for an Irish choreographer to be commissioned to create a full length dance work for the main stage of Ireland’s National Theatre. New dance programmes are created every season and older ones re-staged and toured. Supported by the Arts Council and also by Culture Ireland, the company has performed at the Baryshnikov Arts Centre and Judson Memorial Church, New York, Brisbane Powerhouse and Dance Bites Festival Sydney, Australia, Massachusetts International Festival of Art, The South Bank Centre London, LEAP Festival Liverpool, DanceBase Edinburgh, Le Centre Culturel Irlandais, Festival De La Nouvelle Danse Uzes and The Irish Arts Festival Beijing. The company supports associate dance artists to develop their skills and make new work. They have been Katherine O'Malley 2011 - 2018 and now, Lucia Kickham 2018 - 2021. Each year we also run a Tenderfoot programme which invites younger dancers to work with the company during research and development of new work.

The premiere of the Step up2024 production is coming to Dance Limerick very soon!

OF THE PEOPLE by Catherine Young is a dance experience that resonates deeply with our shared human desire for connection, community and a kinder way of living. It reflects on a particular state of the body, where it is always on, always moving, always doing, always productive. The piece looks for alternatives, asking how the body could feel if we slowed down and worked to foster solidarity together. How do we rebuild community?

These ideas came about through conversations with the dancers, who spoke of their experience living in different cities and the differences in how the body feels in those places. Their experience of Limerick is that of a kind and slow-paced, welcoming city, where people have time for each other - it is a city of the people.

Join us as we explore reclaiming our spaces and rebuilding our communities.

Bonjour Paris! This week we will be in France presenting Sentient, a Beckett: Unbound 2024 Festival commission from the Liz Roche Company. Collaborating with saxophonist Nick Roth and ondes Martenot player Nathalie Forget, and featuring the voice of actor Adrian Dunbar, this work includes a cast of exceptional dancers.

This significant new work for six dancers, saxophone, and ondes Martenot draws inspiration from a seemingly simple passage in Samuel Beckett’s "Molloy," where he marvels at the dance of bees. 🐝💃

We are delighted and excited to present Sentient, a Beckett: Unbound 2024 Festival commission from choreographer Liz Roche, in collaboration with performer / composers Nathalie Forget and Nick Roth.

In a space somewhere between social urgency and urgent sociality, Sentient offers a new interpretation of what it is as a human being to be only one part of our natural world in its vast communicative complexities. The dance travels through different atmospheres; exploring vibration, language, and group communication, with the performers collectively in adaptation to these changing environments.
