Timeless is widely regarded as one of the most important and ambitious drum & bass albums ever made. It helped take the genre from underground raves and pirate radio into the mainstream and critical acclaim.

The title track (and the related single “Inner City Life” featuring Diane Charlemagne) is the centrepiece — a sweeping, emotional 21-minute suite that blends heavy breakbeats with lush strings, soulful vocals, and cinematic production. It remains one of the defining anthems of 90s drum & bass.

Impact
One of the biggest anthems of the late-90s European techno scene and strongly associated with Berlin’s legendary Love Parade. The track became a massive international hit:

UK #15 (1998, Nalin & Kane remix)
Later re-entered the UK chart at #11 in 2001 (Fergie remix)

It sold millions of copies and remains one of the most recognisable German techno tracks of the era — that distinctive looped synth stab is instantly identifiable.
The title and spirit of the track were directly inspired by the Love Parade itself.

The festival almost didn’t happen due to local resident opposition and venue issues, but went ahead after an injunction failed.

It was the only year Féile was held in Cork.
Free condoms were distributed (typical of the era’s safer-sex messaging).

The Prodigy’s set was interrupted by power cuts.
A tragic drowning incident occurred nearby during the weekend.

Fabulous night in the Sound House, some great DJ sets but particularly liked @djdeansherryproducer set.. Sunscreem played a excellent PA and they are really sound, true to form the after party was nearly as good as the main event, managed to last until 1am and hit a brick wall, to all involved take a bow 👏

Significance

This was the very first release on the legendary Glasgow label Soma Records. “Eterna” is widely regarded as a classic of early 90s progressive/deep house — lush, emotive pads and a hypnotic groove that stood out even at the time. Many consider it one of Slam’s finest early works (some prefer it to the later, more famous “Positive Education”).

It was a big tune at Glasgow’s Sub Club in 1991 and remains a highly sought-after record among collectors of early Soma and UK progressive house.
