💭 What if the problem is not that young people don’t know what they want to do, but that we expect them to have one clear answer?

Career guidance often starts with questions like:

❓ “What are you good at?”
❓ “What are you interested in?”
❓ “What do you want to do?”
❓ “Where do you see yourself in five years?”

But choosing a career is rarely that simple.

Interests can change. Strengths can depend on the environment. And knowing what you enjoy doesn’t necessarily tell you what kind of workplace, structure or support will help you thrive.

Maybe we should also be asking:

💡 What kind of environment helps you do your best?
💡 What makes a task easier or harder for you?
💡 What kind of tasks would you like to do more often?
💡 What do you need from a workplace to feel comfortable and productive?
💡 What kind of support helps you work confidently?

For young people with ADHD or specific learning disabilities, these questions can be especially important.

As part of My Career Path, we are currently piloting career guidance tools designed to better respond to different needs and different ways of learning and working.

We want to hear your perspective:

💬 What is one question you wish someone had asked you when you were choosing your career?

We’ll continue exploring career choice, neurodiversity and the transition into working life on Career Path.

💼 Being open to inclusion is a good start. But what does it look like in practice?

Our interviews with employers in Greece, Ireland and Bulgaria revealed a recurring pattern. Many employers value fairness and are willing to support young people with ADHD and specific learning disabilities. Yet inclusive practices are not always built consistently into recruitment, onboarding and everyday work.

Often, the changes that can make a difference are surprisingly practical. Clearer expectations, structured onboarding, step-by-step instructions, mentoring and more accessible communication can help make workplaces easier to navigate.

This raises an important question when we talk about preparing young people for employment:

💭 How prepared are workplaces to receive them?

🌱 In our latest article, we explore what employers told us about inclusion and what it can look like when good intentions become everyday practice.

🌱 What if finding your career path starts with asking better questions about yourself?

You may have heard of Ikigai — a Japanese concept often described as a sense of purpose, meaning, or a reason for getting up in the morning.

In career guidance, you may also come across the popular Ikigai framework, which encourages us to explore four areas:

❤️ What do you love?
What activities make you curious, energised or genuinely engaged?

💪 What are you good at?
What comes naturally to you? What skills have you developed through experience?

🌍 What does the world need?
What problems would you like to help solve? What could be useful to others?

💼 What could you be paid for?
What skills, interests or contributions could connect to real work opportunities?

The interesting part is not necessarily finding one perfect answer.

It’s about exploring the connections between these different parts of yourself — and recognising that they can change over time.

For young people, career exploration doesn’t have to mean deciding “What will I do for the rest of my life?”

It can start with smaller questions:

💭 What makes me curious?
💭 What kind of environment helps me thrive?
💭 What problems do I care about?
💭 What would I like to learn more about?
💭 What could I try next?

✨ Your career path doesn’t have to be a straight line. It can be something you discover by exploring, trying, learning and changing direction.

At My Career Path, we’re exploring tools and approaches that can help young people better understand themselves and make more informed career choices — including how different needs and ways of learning and working can shape that journey.

💬 Which of these four questions would be the easiest for you to answer?

🌱 2nd Capacity Building Workshop of the “My Career Path” project! 🚀

Today, the consortium partners came together for the second online Capacity Building Workshop, continuing our shared work on making career guidance more accessible, inclusive and engaging for young people.

💡 We explored what “accessible learning” really means and discussed the barriers that can make learning difficult or discouraging for young people with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia and other learning needs.

🎯 We also looked at how we can make career guidance more approachable by:
✨ breaking complex information into smaller, manageable steps
🎮 using interactive and gamified learning approaches
💻 making digital learning more engaging and inclusive
🤝 adapting learning to different needs, strengths and ways of learning

The workshop gave us an opportunity to exchange experiences, reflect on our own practices and learn from each other as partners from Greece, Bulgaria and Ireland.

Together, we are working towards career guidance that gives every young person the opportunity to better understand their strengths, explore their options and build their own career path. 🌍💙

📢 A new phase has started for My Career Path!
Over the past months, we have been researching the challenges young people face when moving from education into employment and working on new tools to support them along the way.

Now, it’s time to test what we have created!
My Career Path is currently in its pilot testing phase, where users are trying out the project tools and sharing their feedback with us.

This includes career quizzes and career roadmaps designed to make career planning more practical, accessible and personalised for young people, including those with SLD and ADHD.

And what happens next?

The feedback collected during this phase will help us make the tools clearer, more useful and better suited to the people they were created for.
There’s still more to come !
