I’ve had patients tell me, ‘I never want botox... can you just use filler in my forehead instead?’ and I always have to explain why that’s a bad idea…

Here’s why!

As a general rule in facial aesthetics, the top half of the face and the lower half are treated very differently.

The upper face, your forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet, is usually treated with muscle-relaxing injections.

This is the safest and most effective option.

Because those lines are largely caused by repeated muscle movement.

The lower face is where dermal filler is more commonly used to restore lost volume, support facial structure, or enhance certain features.

So why not just put filler in the forehead?

Because the forehead contains important blood vessels that supply the skin and also connect with the blood supply around the eye.

If filler is accidentally injected into one of these vessels, or compresses it significantly, it can block blood flow.

That can lead to skin necrosis, which is the death of skin tissue.

That’s why forehead filler is not a routine alternative to anti-wrinkle injections.

If your concern is forehead lines, the safest and most effective treatment is usually to address the muscle movement that’s creating the lines, rather than trying to fill them.

Don’t choose a treatment simply because you’ve decided you don’t like another one.
