HSA & FSA Administration Systems: What HR Teams Should Check 29/09/2026

Your benefits portal shouldn’t require a benefits degree. But HSA + FSA administration can get surprisingly complicated:

One system for enrollment.
Another for payroll.
Another for claims.
Different login. Different report.
And somewhere in the middle, HR gets a spreadsheet. 😅

That’s why the administration side of benefits deserves more attention.

An HSA is already a tax-advantaged account with specific eligibility and contribution rules, while FSAs operate differently, including around portability and unused funds. Investopedia's breakdown makes clear that employees have a fair amount to navigate.

Then there’s compliance.

For FSAs, nondiscrimination testing (NDT) can be an important part of plan management. WEX highlights the role of testing in helping employers identify issues and stay compliant.

So what should HR actually look for in an administration platform?

→ Payroll + HRIS integration
→ Automated data synchronization
→ Compliance and NDT support
→ Useful reporting and audit readiness
→ Employee decision support
→ One place to manage multiple account types

Because “we offer an HSA” is the easy part.

Making it easy to administer and easy for employees to use is where the real work starts.

Our latest HRAddict guide breaks down what to check when comparing HSA/FSA administration systems, including:

◆ The Difference Card
◆ HealthEquity
◆ HSA Bank
◆ Lively

A practical checklist for HR teams heading into another benefits cycle.

🚧 Workload Traps 28/09/2026

Today’s HRAddict Spotlight looks at 6 workload traps HR teams should clear before Q4:

→ Reports nobody actually uses
→ Endless email ping-pong
→ Automation that creates more work
→ Meetings that outlive their purpose
→ The “We’ve Always Done It” process

🤫 The Manager Pocket Veto 24/09/2026

Your HR initiative got leadership approval.
Then… nothing happened.

That’s the manager pocket veto: when a new HR initiative gets the public “yes” but quietly loses out to day-to-day priorities.

HRAddict looks at why this happens and why middle managers may not actually be the problem.

Drawing on Peacock Hill Consulting's work on the “middle manager squeeze,” the Spotlight looks at how conflicting KPIs, limited authority and weak sponsorship can quietly derail change.

AI Video Tools for Employer Branding & Recruitment Marketing 23/09/2026

🎥 Your employer brand is already making videos...

The question is whether HR is still making them one painful filming session at a time.

A quick snapshot of what AI video can now help with:

01 → Job marketing

Turn role briefs into candidate-facing videos and campaign content.

02 → Multilingual recruitment

Adapt presenter-led content for different markets and audiences.

03 → Employee storytelling

Use tools like VEED or Descript to turn real employee interviews into shorter, reusable content.

04 → Employer-brand campaigns

Platforms such as ngram can turn existing documents, PDFs, images and brand materials into editable video projects.

And then there’s the HR reality check:
AI can make the video faster. It can’t make the culture more authentic.

The best use case may not be replacing employees with AI avatars → it may be giving real employee stories a much bigger distribution.

Our latest guide by Nikki Vivian, Careers Coach and Writer, looks at 8 AI video tools HR and recruitment teams can actually use — including Synthesia, HeyGen, ngram, InVideo AI and more.

💤 Unused Employee Benefits 22/09/2026

“Wait, we have that?” ... That might be one of the most expensive questions employees can ask about their benefits.

Drawing on Healthee's practical guide to better benefits communication, HRAddict looks at The Benefits Nobody Uses and How HR Can Communicate Value.

The bigger issue may not be the benefit itself.
It may be the communication around it.

Mentorship Blueprint: Relational Learning with AI Innovation 21/09/2026

What happens when AI gets very good at training people?...

HR may need to get better at something AI can’t simply automate: helping people learn from other people.

That’s the interesting tension behind our latest expert contribution from Farnaz Ronaghi, Co-Founder & CTO of NovoEd.

Research on tacit knowledge has long highlighted the value of know-how developed through experience, mentoring and real-world interaction → the stuff that rarely fits neatly into an LMS.

And the conversation is becoming much more current.

Training Magazine has explored how AI could support coaching and mentoring with just-in-time prompts, reflection and data-driven insights, while still leaving room for the human elements of trust, experience and judgment.

There’s also a useful L&D lesson here:

Adults learn by doing.

Scenario-based practice + peer learning + reflection + real-world application ≠ another course marked “complete.”

So perhaps the future of AI-enabled L&D isn't:

AI → replaces mentor

It’s:

AI → removes friction → creates more room for human learning.

This HRAddict guide explores what that could look like, from AI-assisted mentor matching and roleplay to a less obvious challenge:

If AI takes away the “training wheels” work junior employees traditionally learned from, where does that experience come from next?

That’s a talent-development question worth putting on the L&D agenda now.

🔍 The AI Policy Test 17/09/2026

Midweek HR gut check: Could a new hire understand your AI policy in 5 minutes?

Or would they need a lawyer, a coffee and a decoder ring? 🤖☕

This latest HRAddict edition puts the AI policy to a very practical test:

🔍 The 5-minute AI policy test...

Can employees quickly tell:

→ Which AI tools are approved?
→ What data they must never paste into AI?
→ When human review is required?
→ What happens when AI gets something wrong?
→ Whether hiring, performance and other high-risk decisions have extra rules?

The takeaway: an AI policy doesn't win points for being 47 pages long. It needs to be usable.

Our HR Spotlight draws on pointers from CTR Payroll | HR for a practical way to pressure-test those rules.

📊 Meanwhile, the job-title problem is getting interesting.

Andela found that 53% of AI job postings seek skills spanning multiple established roles.

Translation for HR: your job titles might be telling only half the story.

🧩 Also in the digest: an HR tech solutions guide, useful reads, upcoming HR events and a few resources worth bookmarking.

🎓 And a shoutout to iSpring Solutions for this week’s practical learning pick — including its upcoming session on making LinkedIn profiles more visible to hiring managers.

Because apparently your AI policy isn't the only thing that needs to be hire-ready.

Global growth sounds exciting. Global HR compliance? Less so...

A HSBC study found 77% of businesses are planning to expand globally in the next two years. HR teams are increasingly being asked to support workforces that cross borders, tax systems and employment rules.

And that creates a very different compliance checklist.

It’s not just:
☐ Contracts signed
☐ Payroll processed
☐ Policies filed

It’s also:

☑️ Are workers classified correctly in each location?
☑️ Are local employment and tax requirements covered?
☑️ Are remote-work expectations documented?
☑️ Are statutory benefits and protections up to date?
☑️ Who can access sensitive employee data?
☑️ What happens if employee data is lost or disclosed?

The tricky part? Compliance isn’t a “set it and forget it” HR task.

Roles change. People move. Teams go remote. Regulations change. New employees join and others leave.

That’s why the modern HR compliance mindset is less about checking a box once and more about building a process that gets reviewed throughout the year.

And technology can take some of the admin weight off HR teams. Platforms such as Deel can help centralize cross-border documentation, automate workflows and support global workforce processes.

📌 We’ve pulled the key areas HR teams should be reviewing in our Modern HR Compliance Checklist for 2026.

✏️ Back-to-School HR Lessons 04/09/2026

Friday HR thought: Maybe “flexibility” isn't a perk anymore...

Maybe it's part of how good employers actually get work done. 👀

This week's HRAddict digs into what flexible working can teach HR, especially as employees juggle school schedules, caring responsibilities, commutes and everything else that somehow ends up on the calendar.

A few things worth taking away:

🎒 Back-to-school season is a useful HR stress test.

As rradar's take on flexible working requests highlights, flexibility isn't simply about where someone works. It's about whether workplace policies can accommodate real life without creating chaos for managers.

🤖 The next HR challenge may be mapping skills, not just roles.

A recent HRTech Series look at skills graphs in HR tech explores how organisations can uncover capabilities already sitting inside their workforce.

🎓 And yes, there’s plenty more in the Friday mix: workforce updates, practical HR ideas and resources to take into next week.

Plus, a shoutout to iSpring Solutions for helping HR and L&D teams keep learning moving without turning course creation into another full-time job.

☕ Your Friday reminder: good HR policies should work for humans... not just look tidy in a handbook.
