NAME: Eric O’Rourke

SPECIES: Tench

SIZE: 4.55lb

REPORT: I was fishing my local lake for Roach, as the Tench fishing there had been poor lately. I was using a pole with a size 18 hook, double red maggot, and light elastic. About 30 minutes into the session, my float disappeared beneath the surface. As soon as I struck, I knew I was into a Tench as it powered off on a strong run. After a short battle I finally landed this stunning 4.55lb Tench and was absolutely delighted.

NAME: Kobi Core

SPECIES: Wild Brown Trout

SIZE: 72cm

REPORT: I headed out with a few friends targeting Perch using a size 2 spinner when, all of a sudden, I hooked into this monster of a Wild Brown Trout. It put up an incredible fight, and when I finally landed it, I couldn’t believe the size of it. Catching a fish like this has always been a dream of mine, so landing this 72cm Brown Trout was a dream come true.

FISH OF THE MONTH ENTRY.

NAME: James Hopkins

SPECIES: Tope

SIZE: 168cm

REPORT: This impressive 168cm Tope was caught and safely released in Dublin Bay aboard the Celtic Warrior. After spending three hours catching just five mackerel for bait, it took only ten minutes for this incredible fish to find one of them. A brilliant reward for the effort and a session to remember.

NAME: Jayden Griffen

SPECIES: Smoothhound

SIZE: N/A

REPORT: Smoothhound was my target species, but I waited until the sun went down before putting out my first crab bait of the night. I tied up a two-hook boom rig with mackerel on one hook and ragworm on the other, then cast it out not too far, hoping for a Flatfish or maybe a Bass. I was just about to rest my rod on the tripod when the rod took off in my hand. I was absolutely delighted. After a great fight, I landed the Smoothhound safely before unhooking and releasing it.

REPORT: This 65cm, 6lb Seabass was caught on crab bait. A fantastic fish that put up a great fight and made for a memorable catch.

FISH OF THE MONTH ENTRY.

NAME: Jake Browne

SPECIES: Tench

SIZE: 2.12lb

REPORT: I was fishing a lake near Cavan when I noticed my rod getting a few bites. I struck into the fish and was delighted to find it was a Tench. It put up a great fight before I finally landed it. Best of all, it was my very first Tench, making it a catch I’ll always remember.

NAME: Lennon Collins

SPECIES: Catfish

SIZE: 68cm (19.4lb)

REPORT: I headed out targeting Carp but ended up catching this absolute beast instead. The Catfish put up a great fight from start to finish, but everything went to plan and I managed to land it safely. A brilliant surprise catch and one I’ll definitely remember.

FISH OF THE MONTH ENTRY.

NAME: Caolan Murphy

SPECIES: Tench

SIZE: 3lb 4oz

REPORT: I caught this 3lb 4oz Tench on the Royal Canal in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. It was caught on a size 12 hook using two pieces of sweetcorn. The fish put up a brilliant fight and made for a very memorable capture.

NAME: Charlie Kelly

SPECIES: Bass

SIZE: 5lb >

REPORT: This 5lb Bass was the best of six Bass caught by Charlie while fishing from a jet ski with his dad off Kilmore, Co. Wexford. He also landed Po***ck to 6lb during the session. All of the fish were caught on a mixture of hard and soft plastics before being safely returned, making it an unforgettable day on the water.
