Clean Coasts
Clean Coasts engages communities in the protection of Irelandโs beaches, seas and marine life.
The programme is operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce and is currently funded by the Department of the Housing, Planning, Community & Local Government and Fรกilte Ireland. Clean Coasts is made up of two main elements; Clean Coasts Volunteering and the Green Coast Award.

Plastic bottles and bottle caps are one of the most common litter items found on beaches worldwide, consistently in the top 10 in the International Coastal Cleanup results published by Ocean Conservancy and in the !
An reduction of over 50% in this litter has been noted since the introduction of the Deposit Return Scheme showing its positive impact. However 2026 figures from IBAL show plastic bottle and can litter was found in 19% and 22% respectively of sites surveyed, the highest levels since the Scheme was introduced.

AMAZING NEWS from the Cahore Little Tern Project!
An incredible 82 nests have already been counted along the beach this year! This is an astounding milestone for these vulnerable little birds.๐ชบ
To give the chicks the absolute best chance at survival:
๐ Wildlife Ranger Padraig teamed up with the NPWS Knocksink Wood Education Centre to install protective netting.
๐ Theyโve set up shelters to keep the little chicks safe and secure within the fenced zone.
