📣 Just published: Low-paid jobs: Employment trends and impact of minimum wage policies

Low-paid jobs in Europe are heavily concentrated in a limited number of sectors and occupations.

They are particularly prevalent in:
🔹accommodation and food services,
🔹 administrative and support services,
🔹wholesale and retail trade,
🔹human health and social work.

Especially among low-skilled occupations such as cleaners and helpers, labourers, personal service workers, food preparation assistants and sales workers.

🌍 How can European and local action work together to break the cycle of inequality for children and young people?

At the Break the Cycle Conference, Eurofound expert Michele Consolini joined Chris Quinn, Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, and Ally Dunhill of Eurochild to discuss the role of evidence, policy and collaboration in improving outcomes for children and families.

🤝 The discussion highlighted how cooperation across local, national and European levels can help strengthen prevention, early intervention and family support services.

Tomorrow, Eurofound Executive Director Ivailo Kalfin will present our latest research on the Freedom to Stay at the European Committee of the Regions in Mullingar.

Building on a concept introduced in the Letta Report, "Much More Than a Market", Eurofound has translated the idea of the "freedom to stay" into measurable dimensions, helping identify the conditions that enable people to remain and thrive in their communities.

We are delighted to feature Dr Franz Ferdinand Eiffe from Eurofound as a keynote speaker at this year’s Generations at Work conference.

Dr Eiffe will contribute to the conference’s Healthy Work Futures theme with his keynote, “Making Longer Working Lives Sustainable in an Ageing Europe.”

Dr Eiffe is a senior expert and Research Manager in the Working Life unit at Eurofound, where his research covers sustainable work, ageing workforces and European working conditions. His recent work has examined the conditions that enable older workers to remain in employment, including job quality, health, workplace practices and policy responses across Europe.

Drawing on research and labour-market evidence from across Europe, his contribution will consider how workplaces and policy can support longer working lives while ensuring that work remains healthy, inclusive and sustainable.

Generations at Work, A Fairer Future for Learning, Earning and Longevity takes place at DCU St. Patrick's Campus on 22 and 23 October 2026.
