Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making service provided by a group of ordina Dogs end up at the pound for a number of reasons.

To save the lives of dogs on the ” put to sleep” lists in pounds, to help rehabilitate and rehome them, and to promote responsible dog ownership. A stray dog in the pound has 5 days to be reclaimed or re-homed (Control of Dogs Act, 1986). A dog surrendered by it’s owners may be euthanised immediately. Louth County Council does it’s best to rehome dogs but unfortunately due to the sheer volume of dogs entering the pound many dogs are listed for euthanasia to accommodate new arrivals. These are dogs that DDR rescue and take into our care. The official Dept. of the Environmental Dog Control Figures shows that Louth now has one of the lowest destruction rate in Ireland. This figure was over 75% prior to DDR being founded. We rely heavily on people to help us by fostering our dogs until the next stage of their journey begins. If we cannot find a fosterer the dog will stay at our new Centre in Dromiskin. The rescue runs up huge costs each month, with most of our funds being used for food, transport and vet bills. Monetary Donations are also supplemented by a DAFM Animal Welfare Grant Award. The most recent grant was received at the end of 2025.

Dundalk Dog Rescue will hold a Street / Bucket collection on Saturday 10-Oct. We will have a dedicated team of volunteers already covering the Centre so we’re calling on all previous collectors and new ones to help make our day successful.
The permit is for one day only so we need as many volunteers as possible so we can cover all the venues and have all 4 time slots filled.

10am – 12pm
12pm – 2pm
2pm – 4pm
4pm – 6pm

Please send a message on Facebook or email [email protected] if you can spare two hours on Saturday 10-Oct and let us know which time suits you best.
Thank you

Tuesday Tips: How to Master “Sit”

Teaching your dog to sit is one of those simple little skills that can be really useful in everyday life.
And the best part?
You don’t need to force it 🧡

✨ Use a tasty reward to guide your dog’s nose upwards and slightly back. As their bottom naturally touches the floor, mark the behaviour with a “yes!” (or a clicker) and reward.

✨ Repeat this a few times, then start adding the word “sit” just before they do it.

✨ Keep training sessions short, positive and fun. A few minutes at a time is plenty!

✨ And remember, every dog learns at their own pace. If they don’t get it straight away, that’s okay.
Go back a step, make it easier and try again.

The goal isn't a perfect sit. It's building communication, trust and a dog who wants to learn with you 🐾

Save this post for your next training session and give it a try!

🌼 Nala & Her Little Munchkins 🌼

The fun and games have well and truly commenced — these little munchkins are finding their feet, discovering their voices, and their tiny personalities are beginning to shine through. It’s a joy watching them grow more confident each day.

Nala continues to be the most amazing mom, keeping all six of her little babas in check and making sure everyone is fed, warm, and loved. She’s truly a superstar.

We have now closed applications for the puppies and will be reaching out to suitable families at the end of next week. Thank you so much to everyone who has expressed interest — your support and patience mean the world.

Once again, a huge thank you to Michelle and her family for being the safe haven this little crew needed. Their dedication ensures Nala and her babies have everything required to thrive during these precious early weeks.

💛 Foster saves lives — and this family is living proof.

🐾 A Little Bit of Lola… 🐾

Lola continues to settle in beautifully on her trial homing — and honestly, these two are becoming 2 peas in a pod.

She’s growing more confident every day, taking her cues from her new buddy and soaking up all the comfort that comes with having a resident dog by her side.

It’s a joy watching her blossom.

Beau finds his inner super‑hero today… with a little bit of Scooby‑Doo energy thrown in for good measure.

Slow and steady continues to be the name of the game on his trial homing, and this boy is giving it everything he’s got.

One paw in front of the other — proud of you, Beau.
