Tá áthas orainn tacú le Aonach Bhéal Átha na Sluaí i mbliana. Is i gceantair thuaithe is mó atá acmhainní nádúrtha, bithéagsúlacht agus taitneamhachtaí cuairteoirí na hÉireann agus is cosantóirí tábhachtacha iad ar ár gcaipiteal oidhreachta, cultúir agus nádúrtha.

Well that's a wrap! Another very successful Health and Wellbeing event hosted by Portumna Active Retirement Group took place in the Town Hall yesterday (with a little help from their friends in SICAP, Galway Sports Partnership, Healthy County Galway and the many groups and organisations who shared information and tips on how to stay well and healthy). We were also treated to a suprise visit from local TY students who sang for everyone. Huge well done to all involved!

🐎 Step back in time at this year’s Ballinasloe Fair & Festival 2026!

“Snapshots of Ballinasloe Fair and Galway Life from Newspaper Reports, 1750–2000”

Discover the 250-year story of Europe’s oldest and largest horse fair – from its 18th-century origins as a major sheep and cattle mart (handling 100,000 sheep in a single week), to its evolution into the great horse fair we know today.

Drawing on contemporary newspapers, the lecture by Steve Dolan will bring to life the traders, drovers, landlords, Travellers, and townsfolk who made Ballinasloe such a vital hub, while placing the fair firmly in the wider story of specific years.
