Howth RNLI Golf Classic 2026 was a fantastic day raising €14,570 thanks to the wonderful sponsors & golfers.
Deerpark Golf provided a challenging golf course, with heavy rain & lots of wind. 144 Golfers returned glowing & damp but very cheery !

Howth Yacht Club Deerpark Golf

Howth RNLI’s volunteer crew launched the inshore lifeboat twice yesterday (Sunday) to assist people in difficulty.

The first call came shortly before 1.40pm, following reports of an injured person at Red Rock in Sutton.

While the inshore lifeboat was making its way towards Sutton, the crew were diverted to a separate incident involving an injured person at Whitewater Brook, close to the Baily Lighthouse.

The casualty, who had sustained an ankle injury, was taken aboard the lifeboat and brought back to Howth Lifeboat Station, where they were handed into the care of a waiting ambulance.

Dún Laoghaire RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was tasked to the original incident at Red Rock. Their volunteer crew took the injured person aboard and brought them to Sutton Dinghy Club, where they were also handed into the care of an ambulance.

Later that evening, shortly after 5.30pm, Howth RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was called out for a second time following reports of two people cut off by the tide at Portmarnock Beach.

The lifeboat crew located the two people, took them safely aboard and returned with them to Howth Lifeboat Station.

The two callouts are a timely reminder of how quickly conditions around our coastline can change. If you are heading out along the coast, always check the weather and tide times before setting off and allow plenty of time to return safely.

If you see someone in difficulty at sea or along the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

It’s been a busy week for our crew at Howth RNLI.

Five of our volunteer crew members successfully completed a range of assessments this week as part of their crew training:

David Nixon - Tier 2 ALB Crew
Aidan Murphy - Tier 2 ALB Crew

Each assessment marks the culmination of many hours of training, exercises as well as considerable personal commitment by each volunteer.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in supporting and mentoring them throughout their training, and to Mark, our RNLI trainer and assessor who conducted the assessments.

These new qualifications further strengthen our volunteer crew and help ensure that Howth RNLI remains ready to respond whenever the pagers sound.

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open Day yesterday!

Over 300 people came through the doors of Howth Lifeboat Station to meet our volunteers, tour our lifeboats and learn more about the work of the RNLI.

At the Lifejacket Clinic, our water safety volunteers carried out checks on 26 lifejackets. Just over half were in good working order, with the rest in need of servicing—a timely reminder of the importance of regularly inspecting and maintaining your lifejacket to ensure it is ready to use when needed.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, our fundraising team also raised close to €2,000 on the day. Every donation helps support the lifesaving work of the RNLI.

A special thank you to SuperValu Sutton for donating cakes and a hamper for our raffle.

Events like this are only possible thanks to a tremendous team effort. Thank you to our volunteer crew and operations team, and to our amazing fundraising and water safety teams, for making the day such a success.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along, supported us and helped create such a wonderful atmosphere. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Howth Lifeboat Station—we certainly enjoyed welcoming you! 💙🧡
