It’s Tuesday, time to test those smoke alarms!

After you test yours, check in with any vulnerable family members or neighbours to see if they need assistance testing their smoke alarms.

The beginning of September saw refresher training take place in working at heights for our retained crews. The course covered all the necessary legislative requirements, as well as looking at the practical elements of setting up and working off a roof. Crews also looked at the Jag rescue kit which has a number of uses for heights rescue. Our thanks to SO Redfern and all of the crew in Cappamore for the use of their facilities.

Last night our Mulgrave St crews were mobilised by MRCC to an e-scooter on fire in a domestic premises in the city.

Thankfully the homeowners evacuated their family safely from the building and alerted us.

Rathkeale crews were disappointed to discover a car parked outside the Fire Station this evening, which was obstructing one of the appliance bays.

Crews never know when they will have to turn out to an emergency incident, a call can come in at any time. While it may seem that nothing is happening and it’s ok to park outside briefly, it can hinder us turning out to an incident where lives may be at risk.

Park sensibly, and keep Fire Station access clear at all times.

Did you know smoke alarms have a lifespan of 10 years? All modern smoke alarms have a “Replace by” sticker on them. Check your alarms to ensure they are in date, and replace life expired alarms.

While doing this, don’t forget to test them to ensure they are in working order.

This evening while attending a vehicle fire outside Mungret GAA Club, a firefighter discovered a phone on the ground at the gates to Mungret Cemetery.

The phone is now in the care of Gardaí who attended the scene.

The days are getting shorter and there’s a chill in the air at times!

Before the nights really close in, take the time to clean your chimney before you start lighting open fires or stoves.

You should clean your chimney at least twice over the winter period to reduce the risk of a chimney fire.

Did you know you should have a minimum of two smoke alarms in your home? One upstairs and one downstairs if living in a two story. Fit them, maintain them, and test them weekly.

It was pleasure as always to participate in the National Services Day parade in Limerick. We were delighted to meet Junior Firefighter Sean McLoughlin who kindly allowed us to to get a picture of our new pump alongside his very impressive rapid response Fire Engine.

We are delighted to be attending this year’s National Services Parade which takes place tomorrow.

The parade departs Pery Square at 14:00 and will follow a route through the city centre.

Also in attendance will be many different emergency vehicles and services from throughout the region.
