🎄🎅 Delighted to see one of our Christmas in Limerick priorities come to life! 🎅🎄

As a member of the Christmas in Limerick Committee, one of our key priorities was to bring a new, magical Santa experience into the heart of the city — and I’m absolutely delighted to see Castle Christmas now announced for 2026!

🏰 From 21 November to 23 December, King John’s Castle will be transformed into a magical festive world, with a 75-minute immersive Christmas adventure for families.

Visitors will journey through the castle, meet festive characters, become part of the Christmas story, enjoy festive activities, experience a special Santa encounter and even take part in a unique teddy bear workshop. 🧸✨

Working with the team behind Elf Town Galway, this is a fantastic new addition to Christmas in Limerick and something we’ve been keen to see happen.

I’m delighted to have played a part in helping deliver this, and to see Santa coming to the city in such a special way. 🎅❤️

🚸 MORE 30 KM/H SCHOOL-ZONE SAFETY MEASURES PROPOSED FOR OUR COMMUNITY

I am leading the work on these measures and continuing to work hard to improve road safety across our community, particularly around our schools.

The current consultation proposes:

🔴 St Nessan’s NS – periodic 30 km/h
🔴 Gaelscoil Raithín, LÉTS Educate Together & Mungret Community College – one periodic 30 km/h measure running the length of the road
🔴 Ballybrown NS – 30 km/h

These periodic 30 km/h limits would apply at school drop-off and collection times only, improving safety when children, families and traffic are at their busiest.

Also proposed/being considered:

🟠 Mungret Village core – 30 km/h
🟢 R589 from Quins Roundabout to Mungret Village 80kph to 60kph
🟠 Upper Dooradoyle Road from Churchill Meadows Road – 30km/h
🟠 An Mhodhscoil – 30km/h

The aim is to have signs in place by March 2027, subject to consultation and approval.

I will continue leading and working hard on this to deliver safer roads and safer school environments for our community.

🚧 N69 ROADWORKS UPDATE

A further update on the Clarina to Court Cross pavement works.

Limerick City and County Council engineers are currently on site, working with the contractor to get the scheme completed as quickly as possible.

The previous target was to have the works substantially completed by now. That timeline has not been achieved, with the current likely completion date now Wednesday, although there is a push to finish sooner.

I know residents and commuters are extremely frustrated with the ongoing delays, particularly during peak times.

I’ll continue to keep pressure on for the works to be completed and for disruption to be kept to an absolute minimum.

🚧 N69 Roadworks Update

I’ve received an update on the Clarina to Court Cross pavement scheme.

The pavement overlay works are targeted for completion this Saturday, 5th September, with contractors working day and night this week to get this stage finished.

I know the recent evening traffic delays, particularly west of the Ferry Bridge, have been frustrating for residents and commuters. I’ve raised these concerns and the contractor is working to reduce disruption during peak hours.

Following this, verge works, road lining and road studs will be completed, with the overall scheme expected to be finished by the end of September.

🚧 YELLOW BOX JUNCTIONS PROPOSED FOR MUNGRET & RAHEEN

I have been working with residents and Limerick Council to raise ongoing concerns around traffic congestion, access at key junctions in the Mungret & Raheen area. These are circled in the pictures.

Following my request, Limerick Council’s Roads & Traffic section is now considering proposals for Yellow Box Junctions at a number of locations, including:

📍 Church Road / R510
📍 Slí na Manach/ R589
📍 Mungret Gate Road/ R510

These measures are particularly important given the high-density residential nature of the area and the volume of traffic using these regional roads.

The proposed Yellow Box Junctions are intended to help keep junctions clear, improve traffic flow and, importantly, improve access and safety for residents and road users.

I’m pleased that these proposals are now being formally considered, with a decision expected shortly.

I will continue to engage with Limerick Council and keep residents updated as soon as a decision is made.

🚧 Key Road & Traffic Updates to Note:

South Circular Road:

Currently closed to vehicles from Ballinacurra Road for ongoing works.

School Drop-Off: It stays open during morning school drop-off but closes immediately after. Use the New Street diversion.

The Crescent (O’Connell Avenue): Closed completely until Monday.
