The Essential Guide to Knavecon

Coming to Knavecon for the first time? Here’s everything you need to know.

Knavecon kicks off at 10am on Saturday, 26th September at the Castletroy Park Hotel.

If you’re driving, there’s free parking in front of and behind the hotel. Come in through the main entrance, walk straight ahead, take a left and follow the corridor. You’ll find us at the end, smiling, gurning and pretending we know what we’re doing.

Tickets & the Grande Raffle

You can buy Knavecon entry tickets on the day, as well as tickets for the legendary Grande Raffle. We take cash, Revolut and PayPal. You can prebook them too and get more raffle tickets for you buck at

The Grande Raffle is the only timed event of the entire day and takes place at 5pm, so make sure you have your raffle tickets ready. It’s always good. Very good. You should probably buy more raffle tickets.

What’s the day like?

Knavecon runs from 10am until the wee hours of Sunday morning, and you’re free to come and go whenever you like.

There’s good food available in the hotel, a café across the road and a shop nearby, so you won’t go hungry.

The whole event is relaxed, inclusive and friendly — apart, obviously, from people from Cork.

Think of Knavecon as a massive games night in someone’s house. It’s very chilled out. We don’t run competitive events and nobody cares whether you’re an expert gamer, a complete beginner or somewhere in between. Everyone is there to play games, meet people, catch up with friends and have a laugh.

And you will.

Games, Games and More Games

There’ll be a large library of games available to play all day. There’s no deposit or complicated booking system — just take a game, look after it and return it to the library when you’re finished.

And, of course, you’re very welcome to bring your own games.

If you’re new to Knavecon or you’ve arrived on your own, come and say hello at the desk. We’ll introduce you to people and help get you into a game. You can also just wander around, have a chat and ask to join in. That’s very much how Knavecon works.

Traders, Gaming Folk & General Shenanigans

We’ll have vendors selling games, accessories and various other shiny things designed to separate gamers from their money.

There’ll also be some familiar faces from the gaming world knocking around, but everyone comes to Knavecon as a civilian. They’re there for exactly the same reason as everyone else — to let their hair down, play games, meet friends and occasionally point and laugh at one another.

Buy & Sell

Our Buy & Sell area runs all day.

If you have games you’d like to sell, grab some Post-it notes from the desk. Write your name, contact details and asking price on the note and stick it on your game before putting it on the Buy & Sell table.

If you spot something you fancy, contact the owner directly and agree a deal.

Simple.

We want everyone who comes through the door to have a great day.

If you’re unsure about anything, can’t find a game, don’t know anyone, want to join a table or simply need help — come to the desk and talk to us. That’s what we’re there for.
