⛽☕️A full tank of diesel or three takeaway coffees - which generates more profit? 💶
It’s easy to think of fuel as the main event at a forecourt, but the margins can tell a different story.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority reported average fuel margins for non-supermarket retailers of around 9–10% in recent data.
Coffee, food and other shop purchases can offer much stronger margins, without the same investment in pumps, tanks and fuel infrastructure.
So the real opportunity isn’t choosing between fuel and shop sales, it’s understanding the customer who buys both.🏪

Nobody wants to think about Christmas in September. 🎄
But if you run a retail business, now is actually a good time to make sure your EPOS is ready for the busiest weeks of the year. 🖥️
Check your prices and promotions. Look back at last December's sales. Make sure your reporting gives you the information you need. Get seasonal staff set up early.
And don't forget the equipment itself. If you're bringing an old till out of storage for an extra checkout, test the till, scanner, printer and other peripherals now, not when the queues are out the door.
A little preparation in September can mean fewer problems in December.

“We’d love to change our till system, but…”
We hear this a lot. And, to be fair, there are some very understandable reasons for hesitating.
What about the downtime?
Will the staff get used to it?
What happens to all our data?
It will cost too much
A change is just too stressful
