Srinagar, July 24: J&K Peoples Democratic Party senior leader Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Friday chaired an important organisational meeting of delegates and party workers from Block BK Pora at his residence, bringing together representatives from all 30 Panchayat Halqas under the Chadoora assembly constituency.

The gathering, attended by a cross-section of local party functionaries and grassroots workers, centred on consolidating the party's organisational base at the block level and reviewing preparedness ahead of the upcoming Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections, seen as a crucial test of the party's ground strength in rural Kashmir.

Speaking at length to the delegates, Zaffer underlined that a strong and disciplined party structure at the grassroots was essential for PDP's revival and long-term political relevance in the region.

He stressed the need for unity among workers, adherence to party discipline, and sustained public outreach, urging members to remain in close touch with local communities, listen to their day-to-day grievances, and work proactively to address them.

He added that the party's credibility depended on how effectively its workers engaged with people at the ground level, particularly in the run-up to panchayat-level polls.

Zaffer also invoked the leadership and vision of PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba M***i, reminding workers of her consistent support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He specifically highlighted her solidarity with students from the region who had participated in protests in Delhi, describing it as reflective of her commitment to standing by Kashmiri youth even outside the state.

Turning to the current political situation, Zaffer launched a pointed attack on the National Conference-led government, accusing it of administrative failures, double standards, and corruption during its tenure.

He accused that the ruling dispensation had failed to deliver on its promises and that its style of governance had exposed a wide gap between its public posturing and actual performance.

According to Zaffer, these shortcomings have steadily eroded public confidence and fuelled growing dissatisfaction among ordinary citizens across the Valley.

Towards the concluding part of the meeting, participants reviewed logistical and organisational arrangements for the party's upcoming Foundation Day, scheduled for Tuesday, July 28.

He called upon party members and workers from Block BK Pora to ensure enthusiastic and wide-scale participation in the observance, describing it as an important occasion to reaffirm collective commitment to the party's ideology and its founding principles.

The meeting concluded with Zaffer reiterating his call for workers to intensify their outreach efforts and stay prepared for the organisational and electoral challenges ahead.

Zaffer Mir slams Govt. apathy towards Chadoora at PDP's delegates' convention

Says civic crisis cannot be ignored any longer; Raises drinking water crisis, farmers' distress and road woes

Srinagar, July 19: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party Senior leader Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Sunday extensively criticized the local government over what he described as the persistent neglect of Chadoora Assembly constituency, asserting that the people have been deprived of basic amenities and left to grapple with mounting civic and economic hardships.

Zaffer was addressing a delegates' convention at Gowharpora, attended by newly appointed party delegates from Gowharpora, Kuzwera, Kultreh, Brarigund, Wadipora, Kralcheck, Sanzipora, Noubug and Bugam.

The convention deliberated extensively on pressing public issues, developmental challenges and the party's strategy for the forthcoming Panchayat elections.

Expressing grave concern over the worsening condition of the constituency, Zaffer said the prolonged drinking water crisis has become a daily ordeal for residents, while dilapidated roads, inadequate infrastructure and poor public services continue to expose years of administrative indifference.

He also highlighted the plight of the farming community, saying soaring fertilizer prices have placed vegetable growers under severe financial stress, while repeated weather-related losses have dealt a major blow to the horticulture sector. He urged the government to announce a comprehensive relief and compensation package for affected farmers and orchardists without delay.

During the convention, delegates unanimously adopted a resolution demanding the immediate release of compensation promised to landowners and affected families by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) through the administration, saying further delays were unacceptable.

Taking aim at the district administration and elected representatives, Zaffer accused them of failing to safeguard the interests of more than two lakh residents of the Chadoora Assembly segment.

He demanded immediate measures to resolve the drinking water crisis, upgrade healthcare facilities, ensure the regular availability of medicines in Primary Health Centres and address other long-pending public grievances.

Urging party workers to intensify grassroots engagement, Zaffer called upon them to prepare vigorously for the Panchayat elections and ensure overwhelming participation in the PDP Foundation Day programme, to be held under the leadership of the party patron in Srinagar on July 28.

"The people of Chadoora have waited long enough for justice and development. They deserve clean drinking water, quality healthcare, better roads and a government that listens to their concerns. PDP will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people and relentlessly raise their genuine issues at every democratic forum," Zaffer said.

Srinagar, June 17: Senior PDP leader Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) has expressed profound grief and concern over the tragic death of Nazir Ahmad Sofi of Wathoora, Chadoora, whose body was recovered from Chinar Bagh, Dal Lake, by police on Tuesday.

During a visit to the bereaved family, Zaffer conveyed his heartfelt condolences and stood in solidarity with the family members in their moment of immense sorrow. Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, he called for a transparent, impartial, and time-bound investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that justice is delivered.

Remembering Nazir Ahmad Sofi as a respected entrepreneur and a valued member of the community, Zaffer said that he had established the first bakery shop in Wathoora and was currently running a bakery business in Kralpora. “Nazir Ahmad Sofi was known for his hard work, dedication, and contribution to the local economy.

His sudden and untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the area and left the entire community grief-stricken,” he said.

Zaffer noted that the tragedy also reflects the broader challenges confronting society today. He observed that people across Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with mounting economic pressures, financial insecurity, and growing mental stress amid a prolonged slowdown in business activity.

He said that shrinking incomes, rising unemployment, soaring inflation, and declining purchasing power have pushed many families and small business owners into an increasingly difficult situation.

Expressing concern over the worsening socio-economic conditions, he urged both the Union and Jammu & Kashmir governments to take urgent and meaningful steps to revive economic activity, generate employment opportunities, and extend relief to struggling households and entrepreneurs.

He called for a comprehensive economic revival package aimed at supporting small businesses, strengthening livelihoods, and restoring public confidence.

Concluding his statement, Zaffer prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, praying for strength and patience for them to bear this irreparable loss.
