As India’s digital infrastructure expands, driven by AI and high-density computing, building sustainable data centres will require us to look beyond power and computing infrastructure. Water resilience is becoming an equally important part of the equation.

At Data Centre Summit India 2026 in Mumbai, Mr. SANJAY THUTE, General Manager – Global Business Development, VA TECH WABAG, represented WABAG as a panelist, sharing perspectives on how sustainable water management can support the evolving cooling requirements of the data centre sector.

With cooling systems requiring reliable and fit-for-purpose water, the discussion highlighted the opportunity to reduce dependence on conventional freshwater sources through treated and recycled wastewater, advanced water treatment, water recycle and reuse, and desalination, depending on site-specific requirements.

At WABAG, sustainability has always been at the heart of how we think about water — preserving freshwater, transforming used water into a valuable resource, advancing circularity, and embracing technologies that can strengthen water security for generations to come.

We are delighted to be associated with The Hindu Sustainability Summit 2026 as an Associate Sponsor, joining leaders and changemakers in conversations around building a more sustainable tomorrow.

Adding WABAG’s water perspective to the dialogue, our Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. Rajiv Mittal, will be one of the panellists for the session “Wastewater to Resource: Reimagining Water, Managing for a Circular Future.” He will share his perspectives on how wastewater can move beyond treatment to become a valuable resource — through water recycle and reuse, resource recovery and circular approaches that reduce dependence on freshwater.

We look forward to engaging with fellow leaders and stakeholders and contributing to conversations that can help translate sustainability from intent into lasting impact.

As cities grow and wastewater generation increases, sewage treatment plants have the potential to evolve beyond sanitation infrastructure into platforms for water, energy and resource recovery.

By recovering biogas from sewage sludge, upgrading it and converting it into Compressed Bio-Gas (Bio-CNG/CBG), wastewater treatment can create a higher-value renewable fuel while supporting methane recovery, fossil-fuel substitution and a more circular approach to wastewater management.

Our latest blog explores the journey from sludge to Bio-CNG, the factors that determine project viability, the wider feedstock opportunity, and how resource recovery can help transform wastewater infrastructure into integrated water-and-energy recovery assets.
