Think your toddler is too young for the dentist? Think again! 🦷👇
There is a huge myth going around that kids don’t need to see a dentist until they have a full mouth of teeth, or until they start kindergarten.
But according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the golden rule is actually:
✨ First tooth or First birthday — whichever comes first! ✨
Yep, that means most babies should have their first dental visit by the time they turn one year old.
Why so early?
It’s rarely about looking for cavities (though baby teeth can get them!). The first visit is all about prevention and comfort:Catching things early.
👶Checking on jaw development, gums, and how those first few teeth are erupting.
👶Building a Dental Home: It gets your baby used to the sights, sounds, and friendly faces of a clinic before they ever experience dental discomfort. No fear, just fun!
👶Parent coaching: We will talk about soothing teething pain, proper brushing techniques for tiny mouths, and how nutrition impacts those brand-new teeth.

Oral health care tips for a 6-month to 1-year-old toddler 👶🦷

Start cleaning gums and teeth twice daily with a soft infant toothbrush or clean damp cloth.

Use a rice grain–sized smear of fluoride toothpaste once the first tooth erupts.

Never put the baby to sleep with a milk bottle — it can lead to early childhood cavities.

Avoid dipping pacifiers in honey, sugar, or jaggery.

Introduce sipping from a cup around 6 months and gradually reduce bottle dependence.

Teething? Offer chilled teething rings instead of sugary biscuits.

Wipe the baby’s mouth after feeds, especially night feeds.

Encourage healthy eating habits early — fruits, vegetables, and calcium-rich foods help growing teeth.

Schedule the first dental visit by the first birthday or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.

Was randomly thinking of keeping a Peace Lily in my clinic lately🌿... And today, one of my patients a close accquaintance , walked in for her appointment carrying one as a gift for me.
Now I honestly can't decide - Did I manifest the Peace Lily... or the kindest patients?🩶
Little moments like these make my profession feel so much more beautiful.
