What does it take to turn nutrition knowledge into everyday practice?

As part of our series this Poshan Maah, we are bringing together perspectives from stakeholders working to improve maternal and child nutrition.

In this video, Dr. Pankaj Lalit (I.A.S.), Director, Directorate of Women and Child Development, Himachal Pradesh, reflects on an important dimension of the conversation: knowledge alone does not always translate into behaviour change. The choices women make are shaped by the people, practices and circumstances around them.

This is central to how we think about Cash Plus at IPE Global, combining financial support with evidence-based Social and Behaviour Change approaches to help women and families translate resources and knowledge into better nutrition and care practices.

IPE Global is proud to work with the Wcd Himachal Pradesh, to address maternal and child nutrition challenges through a Cash Plus approach.

This Poshan Maah, we continue to explore what shapes her plate - and how we can help women make better nutrition choices for themselves and their children.

In a new article, IPE Global colleagues Aamir Siddiqui, Ash*ta Munjral and Namita Wadhwa examine an important, yet often overlooked, component of maternal nutrition and pregnancy health: gestational weight gain (GWG).

Evidence points to its role in influencing birth outcomes and longer-term health for both women and children. But gestational weight gain is shaped by more than individual dietary or lifestyle choices. Food security, access to health services, family and social support, and the quality of counselling and nutrition support available during pregnancy can all influence outcomes.

Evidence from India points to the value of integrated approaches that bring these dimensions together. In Rajasthan, IPE Global’s Cash Plus approach combined financial support with Social and Behaviour Change Communication, community engagement, counselling and regular pregnancy weight monitoring. Programme evidence indicates improvements in gestational weight gain, dietary practices and birth outcomes.

These insights are explored in ‘Beyond the Weighing Scale: Strengthening Gestational Weight Gain through Evidence and Action’, featured in the September 2026 issue of Yojana. The article examines the evidence on gestational weight gain and considers how monitoring, counselling, nutrition support and behaviour change can be better integrated into maternal health services.

A woman’s nutrition is influenced by a range of factors, from what she knows and can afford to the choices available to her, and the systems and services that shape her access to resources, information and support.

As part of our campaign, we are bringing together perspectives from diverse stakeholders, drawing on their experience and expertise to explore the factors that shape women’s nutrition.

In this video, Raghwesh Ranjan, Senior Director, Social and Economic Empowerment, IPE Global, looks at the role of systems and services in shaping what reaches her plate.

He highlights why it matters that benefits, information and support reach women at the right time and in ways that respond to their needs, particularly during the first 1,000 days, from pregnancy through a child’s first two years, a critical window for growth and development.

This is central to our Cash Plus approach, which brings together financial support with information, services and frontline support to help women access what they need for better nutrition and care.

What shapes her plate? It is rarely just one thing.

A woman’s nutrition is shaped not only by the resources available to her or the choices she makes, but also by the people, norms and systems around her.

Who decides what is bought and cooked? What foods are considered appropriate during pregnancy? Does she have access to a variety of foods locally? Does she receive the support she needs from her family and caregivers?

These everyday realities influence what ultimately reaches her plate and, in turn, her nutrition and her child's.

In the latest video in our “What Shapes Her Plate?” series, Namita Wadhwa, Director, Social and Economic Empowerment, IPE Global, reflects on why improving maternal nutrition calls for more than individual action. It calls for families, communities, frontline workers and systems to play their part.

Because to change her plate, we have to change what shapes it.

Mr Amit Gupta, Associate Vice President (Cities, Infrastructure, & Growth), participated in 'Innovation Day 2026' hosted by Bentley Systems in New Delhi on 17 September 2026. The conference brought together industry leaders, infrastructure designers, and technology experts to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of digital infrastructure in the water and transportation sectors.

The future of infrastructure will depend on how intelligently we plan, design, operate and manage what we build. The convergence of AI, digital twins, geospatial technologies, cloud-based collaboration, reality modelling, and connected data environments is creating new opportunities to transform infrastructure delivery from conventional, project-centric approaches towards integrated, data-driven, and lifecycle-oriented asset management.

The discussions at Innovation Day 2026 reinforced that technology is no longer merely an enabler of infrastructure - it is increasingly integral to how we envision, deliver, and manage resilient and sustainable cities.
