Mohd. Arif's art practice is based on the concept of “Beauty in the Gruesome.” Vibhatsa Rasa is central to his practice. The nine rasas form the foundation of Indian aesthetics, with Vibhatsa Rasa representing the expression of disgust. His work explores the transformation of Vibhatsa Rasa into an expression of beauty, while also approaching the work as a contemporary form of memento mori.
During his BFA, he regularly undertook studies of places where animal remains and corpses were discarded. He made extensive studies through sketches, sculptures, and installations, focusing on how beauty could be expressed alongside the powerful presence of life and death. These experiences led him to explore the nature of reality and the formal qualities of painting through ordinary objects, using symbols associated with Vibhatsa Rasa alongside imaginative elements drawn from the history of Indian miniature painting.
This research forms the foundation of his practice and raises questions about the nature of conceptual art and the values assigned to contemporary artistic media. He is interested in challenging these values through experimentation with materials and processes.
He has also investigated new possibilities for painting through assemblage, creating works through the accumulation of materials such as glitter and hand embroidery with surgical blades on canvas. His paintings often cover the surface with thick layers of colour and decorative elements, drawing on my studies of textiles and contemporary media.
Arif is continually looking for new ways of working that can shift existing visual expectations and generate new possibilities. His practice constructs cohesive works from beautiful yet unsettling forms, creating a balance between pleasure and discomfort. Ultimately, he am interested in the transformation of Vibhatsa Rasa into beauty, and in the possibility of creating an art that is simultaneously beautiful, unsettling, and reflective of the realities of life and death.

Paarijat Chakroborty's art practice is inspired by perception, phenomenological processes of visualisation, and neutrality. Through interaction between light, shadows, and reflections, she expresses the phenomenon of “seeing”, painting them as they are in their essence – straightforward and direct. The act of “seeing” is subjective and neutral, and the layers of optics – light, shadows, and reflections form these layers of individual perspective and visualisation. Neutrality is isolation – which is shown through reflected perspective in her artworks. This neutrality of reflected image represents a concealed part of “seeing” that forms a “grey” space – the in-between zone that exists both, with and without subjective judgement.
she paints light, shadows, and reflections, treating them as the primary subjects on her canvas. Utilizing mixed media, she works with transparency and layered rendering techniques.
Photography and photo-manipulation are integral to her process, allowing her to bend and
redesign perception to create unique compositions. Combined with washes and transparent treatments in acrylic, she paints these three basic elements of seeing in their true essence.
To the viewers her artwork is like a mirror and a
window – a mirror that reflects their disassociation with their inner self and at the same time a window that gives a sense of relief and a way out. Ultimately her artwork does not provide answers but holds space for viewers to find an impression of themselves.

The paintings in this series occupy rooms that are never fully inhabited. A bed holds the impression of a body already departed, or not yet arrived. A hand moves to cover a face, a flame, a wound the gesture caught before completion, withheld rather than resolved.
The work is concerned with what remains once presence has withdrawn: absence read not as emptiness but as residue. A candle continues to burn in a room otherwise given over to dark. These images do not narrate; they suspend. Each functions as a held moment folded around a memory that recurs without concluding.
The recurring split compositions cool against warm, contained against combusting operate less as formal devices than as structural premise: that interior states rarely resolve into a single register. Vigilance sits beside exhaustion, tenderness beside its own failure. The paintings do not attempt to reconcile these polarities; they hold them in proximity, in the manner memory itself tends to operate not as continuous narrative, but as fragments that insist on each other's presence.
Taken together, the series proposes loneliness not as an absence of others, but as an accumulation of what they have left behind held in a hand, a flame, an unmade bed, a room too quiet to register as empty.

Through ‘Crabiey’, Mehta peels back all layers of youth’s human experience: friendship, freedom, relationships, whimsy, unconverted judgment, the private weight of gossip and angst. She layers vivid eyes across her work, the same and not the same, multiplied and halved, present as a whole. Scribbles and tallys serve as ongoing rescue measuring, documenting, keeping count of everyday features of life.
Pondering her intangible and internal confusion, she immerses childlike components and colours into the work, uninstructed and alive. Her strokes hold the liminal point between what is incomplete and complete. Working on paper, she lets acrylic paint perform ingenious imaginations.
Mehta steps out from rigidity with overlapping shades, returning to nostalgic ambiguity and everyday habits, with no final form or label.
