*Accused Woman remanded to judicial custody in Cheque bounce case by Kangan court*
Kangan, July 28:
The Court of the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kangan, on Tuesday remanded an accused woman to judicial custody till August 29, 2026, in connection with a complaint filed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act (cheque dishonour case).
According to the court order, the accused had remained absent from the proceedings for a considerable period despite repeated opportunities to appear before the court. Owing to her continued non-appearance, the court had earlier issued Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) to secure her presence.
The order states that upon her production before the court, neither the accused nor her counsel could provide a satisfactory explanation for her prolonged absence. The court also noted that no application seeking recall of the NBWs or bail had been moved on her behalf.
Observing that the accused's conduct had delayed the proceedings and demonstrated disregard for the judicial process, the court ordered that she be remanded to judicial custody till August 29, 2026, subject to any further orders passed in accordance with law.
The court directed the Superintendent, Central Jail Srinagar, to lodge the accused in judicial custody and ensure her medical examination as per jail rules. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, DAR Ganderbal, was also directed to provide secure transportation of the accused to the Central Jail.The matter has been listed for the next hearing on August 29, 2026.
