Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay Sahab accompanied by Hon'ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur Ji,conducted a joint inspection of the under-construction NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project tunnel at Samardung, Jholungey, Namchi District, following the tragic tunnel incident.
The Hon'ble Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing rescue operations, announced the constitution of a high-level enquiry committee to ascertain the cause of the incident, and assured ex gratia assistance to the families of the deceased as per NDRF norms. He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to extending every possible support during this difficult time.

“Delighted to attend the on-going Sikkim Paryavaran Parv 2026 and “A Day for Mother Earth” today. This initiative reflects our Government’s commitment to protecting nature and building a greener future.
Today, we are proud to inaugurate the Forest Training Institute, Bulbuley, and launch the Connect to Forest Toll-Free Helpline (1926), which will strengthen forest conservation and encourage greater public participation.
A major milestone this year is the launch of Mission Million Oak Trees by 2047. Oak forests are vital for water security, groundwater recharge, and ecological balance. Through this mission, we are investing in the long-term environmental future of Sikkim.
Our commitment to water conservation is already showing results. Over the past two years, we have provided many Roof Rainwater Harvesting structures and rejuvenated multiple natural springs across the State.
Sikkim continues to lead the nation in environmental conservation and the recognition of Khecheopalri Wetland as Sikkim’s first Ramsar Site.
Sikkim Paryavaran Parv 2026 will continue until 14th July, with plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and community participation across the State.
Let us all work together to preserve our forests, protect our water resources, and leave behind a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Sikkim for future generations”.
