Does your child repeat the words or sentences they hear?

This is called **Echolalia** , the repetition of words, phrases, or sentences heard from someone else.

Echolalia can be a part of language development, and sometimes children use repeated language to:
🔹 Process what they hear
🔹 Communicate a need or response
🔹 Practice language
🔹 Express emotions
🔹 Participate in conversations

But if echolalia is **frequent or persistent** and your child is also having difficulty understanding or using language meaningfully, it may be helpful to look at their overall communication and developmental skills.

💡 Instead of simply asking a child to “stop repeating,” try to understand **what they may be communicating through the repetition.**

Every child communicates differently. Understanding the message is the first step toward supporting meaningful communication.
