Basanta Utsav – the Festival of Colour - is celebrated with much fanfare in every spring or Basanta. Visitors play Dol with coloured powders (Abir).

The festival is a rich kaleidoscope of colour, dance and music. Songs by the folk singers reminisced Holi played by Radha and Krishna. Nature herself is adorned with the fiery red Flame of the Forest or Palash flower. In the Festival, people smear Aabir (colours) on each other and sway to the local ‘Jhumur’ tunes. The ambience of the places along with the hysteria makes this experience truly cherishing.. Festivals add color to life and if it is a festival of colors like Dol / Holi one may well imagine how it smudges all souls with joyousness. Our famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore introduced Basant Utsav or Spring festival in Shantiniketan, Birbhum to recreate the magic of the joyous festival Holi. It is now an integral part of Bengali culture. Iman Sangeet Academy’s endeavor is to spread the essence to usher Basanta Utsav in an unique style.
