Nipah Virus: A Master of Cellular Invasion 🦠🧠

With a mortality rate of up to 75%, understanding the Nipah Virus (NiV) is a global health priority. Here is how this pathogen operates at a molecular level:

1️⃣ Attachment: The virus targets Ephrin-B2/B3 receptors, commonly found in the brain and blood vessels.

2️⃣ Entry: The F-protein triggers a membrane merge, releasing viral RNA into the cell.

3️⃣ Replication: The virus replicates efficiently within the cytoplasm.

4️⃣ Tissue Spread: NiV creates Syncytia (fused cells), allowing it to spread rapidly while evading the immune system.

Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for this BSL-4 (Biosafety Level) threat. Knowledge is our first line of defense. 🧪

The Pathogenesis:

👉🏻 Encephalitis: Severe brain inflammation leading to confusion, seizures, and coma.

👉🏻 Vasculitis: Extensive damage to the lining of blood vessels.
