Chetas Centre for Child Development
Chetas ‘चेतस ‘is a Child Development and enrichment centre using Play way approach and MI theory.
At Chetas, we have adopted the Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory and modified this concept to suit the Indian Context. With advent of newer technologies, children are exposed to several new avenues, thoughts and situations which were not available earlier. As a result they have become fast but at the same time may also tend to be hyper and addictive. Our special approach helps tackle such perceived difficulties by making learning a fun and practical oriented experience. We focus on channelizing their energies into proper thoughts using brain-tickling exercises coupled with physical activities. Programs are designed to help children develop varied skills which may not be a part of generic curriculum.

*️⃣A sharp tool is not a toy: A reminder we cannot afford to ignore.
This is a heartbreaking incident, but sharing it as a cautionary narrative ..will deeply resonate with parents and educators. On the day of Janmashtami, near a neighborhood setup where children were gathering for Matki Phod decorations, an avoidable tragedy occurred.A young child had a paper cutter with him—likely brought along for crafting decorations. In the middle of all this celebrations the cutter was being waved around like a stick or a sword in play( masti mein )In a split second, the paper cutter struck the eye of my maid’s young grandson. The injury resulted in a damaged lens, a severed eyelid, and a traumatic cataract. He has already undergone emergency surgery, with more to follow, and doctors say his full vision may never return.
We can’t supervise children every second of the day, but we must teach them tool safety and risk awareness.
Craft tools—scissors, cutters, compasses—belong at a desk, not in a game of pretend swordplay. A quick “Be careful!” isn’t enough; kids need to understand why certain objects carry real-life consequences.
As parents, teachers, and elders, let’s talk to our kids about safe play today. An intentional conversation takes minutes, but it can prevent a lifetime of regret.
🖐️ Small Hands, Big Growth! 🎴
Did you know that simple card-sorting activities are a powerhouse for fine motor control, sensory organization, and motor planning?🧠✨
Watching little hands carefully pull, lift, and place cards into precise rows isn’t just fun—it’s building critical foundational skills for everyday independence,ADL activities and writing! ✍️
🌟How it helps *Pincer Grip & Pinch Strength: Picking individual cards out of the box strengthens the thumb and forefinger, essential for holding a pencil properly.
*Wrist Extension & Control: Lifting and maneuvering each card promotes smooth wrist flexibility and controlled release.
*Hand-Eye Coordination: Visualizing where to place each card and guiding the hand precisely onto the tray aligns visual inputs with physical action.
*Spatial Awareness & Sorting: Organizing cards side-by-side aids spatial planning, pattern recognition, and focus! *Sensory & Tactile Feedback: The firm tactile feedback of sliding, pinching, and placing cards helps regulate proprioceptive input in a calm, focused environment.

Play-Based Learning: Free Play Activities
Both of these activities provide a wonderful insight into the creative and imaginative thought processes of young children.
In the first activity, a little girl chose the kitchen set and carefully arranged all the pots and pans. She then discovered some colorful rings, which she placed neatly on the table. With a big smile, she pointed out each utensil and explained its use. What caught my attention, however, was how she assigned food items to the colored rings. According to her, the three orange rings were carrots, the green one was capsicum, and the yellow ring was corn. She then declared that she would cook these in the pan. This simple yet imaginative play demonstrated how children make connections between objects, colors, and concepts during dramatic play.In the second activity, a child explored a set of simple glasses and colorful Zenga game pieces. He began by arranging five glasses, and then, with focus, he counted on his fingers before placing the Zenga pieces in each glass, in a neat sequence of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. This hands-on activity using block materials was not only a fun challenge, but it also showcased the child’s understanding of numbers, order, and spatial awareness.
The first activity involved dramatic play, where the child’s imagination took center stage, while the second focused on hands-on learning through block materials. Both activities illustrate how children are actively involved in their learning process—whether through role-play or manipulation of physical objects—and how they explore the world around them in creative and meaningful ways. Many autistic children face challenges with writing due to difficulties with fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive processing. Activity of colouring with help of stencils -develops eye hand coordination , pincer grip , graphomotor skills like direction of lines ,recognizing basic shapes ,practising different color strokes like horizontal , vertical , circular . Also helps in practising self regulation.
