There are some places you visit that leave you with much more than photographs—they leave you with questions.

Divya Kala Mela, a Government of India initiative showcasing the handicrafts and talents of differently abled children and individuals, is one such place.

When you walk past the small stalls overflowing with creativity, patience, and countless hours of hard work, you will wonder—who is truly disabled?

Perhaps it is not those whose bodies or minds work differently. Perhaps it is we, who call ourselves "normal," yet are so often limited by our fears, hesitation, excuses, and the invisible boundaries we create for ourselves.

Then came a performance on stage. A young person with Down syndrome was performing yoga asanas with remarkable confidence, grace, and discipline. For a few moments, the auditorium fell silent and was overwhelmed!

How often do we give up because something feels difficult? How often do we say, "I can't," long before we've even tried?

Sometimes, the strongest people are the ones the world underestimates. And sometimes, the greatest lessons about courage, perseverance, and joy come from those we mistakenly think need our sympathy.

I am sure , your sensitive souls, while leaving Divya Kala Mela will be carrying a simple reminder: disability is not always about the body. More often, it is about the limits we place on our own minds.

This Mela is at Rabindra Sadan Campus in Kolkata. Today was our last day, but mela continues till 22nd July , 1pm to 7 pm.

Urban development minister Sri Umesh Rai and Woman & Child Development minister Smt Malati Rava Roy visited our Unmesh stall on 14th July, at Divya Kala Mela 2026 at Rabindra Sadan campus, Kolkata.
