Stree-Samya Books

Stree and Samya are two imprints of Bhatkal And Sen. Stree publishes on gender studies, focusing on the status of women in India, in English and in Bengal.
Samya focuses on translation from regional languages . Stree is perhaps one of the first feminist publishers to consider a social list that addresses caste seriously; indeed caste has been central in the choice of feminist texts. This also led to the inauguration of the second imprint, Samya, in 1996, focusing on culture and dissent, which gives priority to the study of caste in a changing society, through scholarly analysis, its place in the creation of knowledge, and the writings of dalits, often in translations into English.
