Celebrated on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to honor educators. September 5 marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished philosopher, scholar, and statesman who served as the Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 and as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.

Dr. Radhakrishnan expressed the wish that the day of his birth anniversary should not be observed merely as a celebration of his birthday, but rather as Teachers’ Day, to honour and recognise the invaluable contribution of teachers and educators to society.

In accordance with his wishes, September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India, as a tribute to the dedication, knowledge, and guidance of teachers who play a vital role in shaping future generations.

Roy: Born on July 1, 1882, and passing away on the exact same date in 1962, Dr. Roy was a towering figure who left an enduring legacy in India's public health system and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1961.
