Nei Native — A2 Bilona Ghee. We slow down time for you. Each jar of ghee is personally made with my mother’s recipe, expertise and experience of over 45 years!

Our Story:

Ghee (NEI in Tamil) is essential to our cuisine irrespective of which part of India we are from. We use it in our day to day cooking, in making sweets, and on special occasions and festivals we have it in copious amounts. For our mothers and grandmothers making ghee at home was second nature and a dollop of it on roti or rice was a given. Over time, the emergence of nuclear families, hectic work schedules and fast paced lifestyle led to ghee being made at home a tedious, time consuming process, especially in our big cities. At NEI NATIVE, we make the Ghee/ Nei from A2 full cream milk and deliver it to yours, fresh and without preservatives, untouched by machine or additives. Therattipal in Tamil literally means condensed (theratti) (pal) milk. It may sound like Khoya but unlike Khoya which is used as a base ingredient for making other sweets, Therattipal is the sweet dish itself due to the way it is made. This soft, gooey, crystal like, melt in your mouth delight is perfect for special occasions, festivals or just a spoonful everyday if you have a sweet tooth. Lesser known in the rest of the country, Therattipal is a sweet treat that is quite irresistible once you try it! Artisanal are our delicacies; while we ensure consistency of flavor, color, texture and taste, each jar is unique as it is made by hand and hand tools. Every jar of NEI NATIVE’s goodness is bound to uplift your epicurean taste and delight your senses.

Glimpses of Ganesha 🙏 idols and paintings and pictures.. minimal and powerful

Kozhukattai — a taste so synonymous with Ganesh Chaturthi, and one that makes the festival feel complete.

A wafer-thin rice flour covering, delicately shaped around the most delicious, melt-in-your-mouth filling of fresh coconut and jaggery. The shape is never really perfect when made the traditional homemade way and each and maybe it shouldn’t be because no mould is used.

Steamed and best eaten warm and fresh - soft, delicate, sweet and quite simply heavenly! Believe me, you cannot stop with just one kozhukattai!!

Ganesha and his beloved modak… with some ghee on top of course!

A little sweetness, a little ghee, and a whole lot of tradition 🙏

“Mudakaraatha Modakam…” - the opening words of the much loved Ganesha Pancharatnam, a prayer to Lord Ganesha.

This first verse, set to the bright and uplifting Ragam Hamsadhwani, has such an unmistakably auspicious feel to it — perhaps why the raga itself is so closely associated with compositions invoking Ganesha.

Mudakaraatha Modakam Sada Vimukti Saadhakam
Kalaadharaavatamsakam Vilasiloka Rakshakam
Anaaya Kaika Naayakam Vinasitebha Daityakam
Nataasubhasu Naashakam Namaami Tham Vinaayakam

Meaning:
I bow to Lord Vinayaka, who holds the joy-giving modakam, who leads us towards liberation, who protects the world, who is the leader of those without a leader, and who swiftly removes the obstacles and misfortunes of those who bow to him.

A shlokam, an invocation I learnt from my mother in my childhood.. Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all!
🙏 to the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of auspicious beginnings.
