Android 17 Introduces 'Continue On,' Google’s version of Apple’s Handoff: Here’s what It does 21/05/2026

Google’s new Android add-on resembles Apple’s Handoff. The primary function remains similar across both ecosystems: allowing users to start a task on their Android phone and continue it right where they left off on a compatible tablet.

Continue, Google’s iteration of Handoff, has been designed to be bidirectional, but Google has clarified that, as of now, it only supports tasks moving from a smartphone to a tablet. Android tablet users will see the “Continue” icon in the dock, which suggests the most recently used app from their phone, assuming it is installed on their device.

This feature would allow Android users to directly open documents they were working on or jump straight into the email they had just opened. In some circumstances, it can also open the tablet’s browser to the relevant page to continue a task on the web instead.

Google has added that the feature will be available for testing in Android 17’s EC1 build, its first release candidate version.

Google expands AI-powered advertising in search with Gemini-driven formats 21/05/2026

In its latest blog update, Google revealed that it is using Gemini models to experiment with new advertising experiences that deliver engaging, helpful responses while connecting users with businesses. The search giant stated that 75% of users report making faster and more confident decisions when using AI Mode in Search.

As a result, Google has begun testing two new AI-powered ad formats, curated with Gemini's help, that offer users relevant product information alongside contextual guidance.

To help users evaluate their choices more effectively, both formats will include an independent AI-generated explainer within the advertisement. The Gemini model evaluates and synthesizes information about a product or service, then displays that context alongside the advertiser’s creative. Google said the separate AI-generated response is intended to improve transparency and build trust.

As the technology industry races to reinvent itself around artificial intelligence, financial software giant Intuit has become the latest major player to cut thousands of jobs in the name of AI transformation.

The company is laying off roughly 3,000 employees, amounting to nearly 17 percent of its workforce, according to an internal memo from chief executive Sasan Goodarzi, cited by Reuters. The restructuring effort is designed to simplify Intuit’s organizational structure and redirect resources towards AI-driven development across its products and services.

Known for consumer and business finance platforms such as TurboTax, QuickBooks, and Credit Karma, Intuit employed approximately 18,200 people globally as of July 2025.

Using AI for financial advice? Keep these 5 things out of your chats 21/05/2026

For years, people were warned not to share sensitive financial information online casually. Now, many are beginning to hand over spending habits, subscriptions, and even banking patterns directly to AI chatbots in exchange for convenience and personalized advice.

The trend extends far beyond a single AI model. A recent Cisco survey found that nearly three in ten AI users globally had already entered personal or confidential details, including financial and health-related information, into AI chatbots despite widespread privacy concerns.

Meanwhile, a Stanford University study examining the privacy policies of major AI companies, including Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI, found that chat conversations are typically used by default to improve AI models, with some platforms reportedly retaining the data indefinitely.

Is your phone overheating in this summer heat? Here’s what you should do 21/05/2026

As temperatures continue to soar across several parts of India, people are not the only ones struggling with the heat. Smartphones, too, are feeling the pressure. From sudden battery drain and dimmed screens to overheating warnings and unexpected shutdowns, excessive heat can quietly damage your device long before you realize something is wrong.

Modern smartphones are essentially compact computers packed into slim metal and glass bodies. They generate heat naturally while charging, gaming, streaming, or navigating. Add a brutal summer heatwave on top of that, and your phone’s cooling system can quickly become overwhelmed. According to Apple Support, iPhones are designed to work best between 0°C and 35°C. Samsung India Support has also shared similar guidance.

The good news is that a few small changes in daily habits can significantly reduce overheating and protect your phone’s battery life during extreme weather.
Avoid direct sunlight whenever possible.

Google unveils Docs Live, a Gemini feature that writes documents for you 21/05/2026

Google has unveiled a new AI-powered way of getting work done at lightning speed with the introduction of Docs Live. Building on its latest AI developments, the company showcased how users can now simply brain-dump voice notes instead of typing detailed prompts into Gemini, allowing Docs Live to organize and articulate ideas into polished drafts automatically.

A demo from the product team showcased product engineers using the new suite to generate talking points for presentations. Beyond that, Docs Live was shown pulling details from a user’s résumé, creating humorous analogies for speeches, and even extracting relevant information from emails to insert into documents automatically. The demonstration highlighted the broad cross-platform capabilities that Docs Live is expected to offer.

Beyond capturing and organizing information, users can also ask Docs Live to handle smaller formatting nuances, including creating tables, taking notes, and bolding text where necessary.

Google introduced a new AI video-generation model, Gemini Omni Flash, at Google I/O 2026, positioning it as a major upgrade over its existing generative video tools, including Veo and Nano Banana.

The new model is part of Google’s newly announced Omni family and combines Gemini intelligence with advanced world understanding to create more accurate and editable AI-generated videos. According to Google, Omni Flash has a stronger understanding of movement, physics, objects, and scene continuity compared to its earlier models.

During the keynote presentation, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis demonstrated the new model live on stage, showcasing how it can generate detailed videos from simple prompts and transform existing footage into stylized AI-created worlds.

“Google Omni combines Gemini Intelligence with the best of our models for a new level of world understanding,” Hassabis said during the presentation.
