समुद्र मंथन के समय निकले हलाहल विष को भगवान शिव ने सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि की रक्षा हेतु अपने कंठ में धारण किया। इसी कारण श्रावण मास में शिवलिंग का जलाभिषेक एवं रुद्राभिषेक विशेष रूप से किया जाता है, जिससे महादेव को शीतलता अर्पित की जाती है।

वर्षा ऋतु से परिपूर्ण यह पावन मास प्रकृति में नवजीवन, हरियाली और पवित्रता का संदेश देता है। शिवपुराण के अनुसार, श्रावण मास में भगवान शिव की उपासना, जप, अभिषेक और व्रत का पुण्य अन्य महीनों की अपेक्षा कई गुना अधिक फलदायी माना गया है।

🌺 Maa Kamakhya – The Divine Womb of Creation 🌺

कामाख्या वरदे देवी नील पर्वत वासिनी।
त्वं देवी जगन्माता योनिमुद्रे नमोस्तुते॥

"O Goddess Kamakhya, bestower of boons and desires, who resides upon the sacred Nilanchal Hill. O Mother of the Universe, I bow to You in Your symbolic form as the Yoni Mudra—the eternal source of all cosmic creation."

Maa Kamakhya is revered as one of the oldest and most sacred among the 51 Shakti Peethas of Bharat. As the heart of the Shakta tradition, she embodies the primordial creative force from which all life emerges.

This sacred Shakti Peetha marks the revered site where the Yoni Mudra of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. The associated Bhairava, Umananda, is enshrined on the tranquil Peacock Island amidst the mighty Brahmaputra.

☀️ Every year, around the June Solstice (22–26 June), the temple observes the sacred Ambubachi Mahotsava, when Maa Kamakhya is believed to undergo her annual menstrual cycle.

🚩 For three days, the temple doors remain closed.

Upon reopening, devotees receive the sacred blessings of:
💧 Angodak – Holy Water
🟥 Rakta Bastra – Blessed Red Cloth

From a Jyotisha perspective, Ambubachi begins when the Sun enters Ardra Nakshatra in Mithuna Rashi. Ardra, meaning "moist" or "water-filled," heralds the arrival of the monsoon, when the Earth becomes fertile and ready to nurture new life. Our revered Rishis recognized this celestial transition as a profound symbol of renewal, fertility, and regeneration.

Kamakhya reminds us that the rhythms of Nature and the Cosmos are inseparable. It stands as a rare and powerful sacred space where menstruation is honoured—not as a taboo, but as a divine expression of life, fertility, creation, and Shakti itself.
