A liver transplant is a life saving definite curative treatment option for patients suffering from End stage liver disease ( Cirrhosis)

2 broad types of liver transplant exist-

1. Deceased Donor Liver Transplant ( DDLT) where the liver or part of liver to be grafted comes from a brain dead donor.
2. Liver Donor Liver Transplant (LDLT) where the part of liver to be grafted comes from a living person usually a first degree relative of the patient.

Western nations predominantly have DDLT programs, whereas in India and other south eastern countries have predominantly LDLT programs owing to poor donations in our part of the world.

DDLT has its advantage that it prevents healthy person from undergoing a surgery he doesn’t need. So Let’s pledge to donate organs more.
