India has one of the world's most diverse religious landscapes, shaped by centuries of history, migration, social change, political transformation, and population growth. This visualization traces the changing religious composition of India from 1800 to 2026, covering major faith traditions and the growth or decline of different religious communities across more than two centuries. It offers a long-term perspective on how India's religious demographics have evolved from the 19th century to the present day.

๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐˜€: Census of India, Pew Research Center, Wikipedia, World Population Review, Countrymeters, historical records, and other publicly available demographic sources.

๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ: Religious data from the 19th and early 20th centuries are often estimates or reconstructions rather than precise nationwide measurements. Historical boundaries also differed from the territory of modern India, so figures across the full timeline should be interpreted with these limitations in mind.

In 2016, the UPI app market was still taking shape, with Paytm accounting for 67.48% of the share shown in the data.

Fast forward to 2026, and the landscape looks far more diverse. PhonePe stands at 44.22%, while Google Pay, MobiKwik, Paytm, Amazon Pay, WhatsApp Pay, Navi and several other platforms make up the wider ecosystem.

A decade of digital payments has brought a major shift in how Indians pay.

How Did Religion Change in Malaysia? (1800โ€“2026)

Malaysia's religious landscape has been shaped by centuries of indigenous traditions, Hindu-Buddhist influences, Islam, Christianity, Chinese religious traditions, migration, and colonial-era changes. This timeline traces the evolution of Malaysia's major religious communities from 1800 to 2026, highlighting how demographic and historical forces reshaped the country's faith landscape over more than two centuries. It offers a long-term view of the religious diversity that developed across the region and continued into modern Malaysia.

Sources: Historical records, Malaysian census data, Department of Statistics Malaysia, Wikipedia, Pew Research Center, and other publicly available demographic sources.

Note: Malaysia's modern borders and political structure developed over time, so historical religious figures may refer to territories that later became part of Malaysia. Earlier estimates are also less precise than modern census data.

India's digital payment landscape has transformed dramatically since UPI launched. This visualization tracks the growth of India's leading UPI apps by users from 2016 to 2026, covering major platforms such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and other prominent payment apps. The timeline shows how competition evolved as UPI adoption expanded across India, giving millions of people a faster way to send money, pay businesses, and make everyday digital transactions.

Sources: NPCI, PhonePe, Paytm, MobiKwik, CRED, Business Standard, LinkedIn, NetBrahma Studios, Forbes, The Indian Express, and other publicly available sources.

Note: User figures may represent different measurement methods across platforms and years, including registered users, active users, or reported user bases. Historical figures should therefore be compared with consideration for differences in definitions and reporting periods.

Hypothetical Video

What might Kerala's religious demographics look like under a hypothetical scenario in which Islam is excluded from the state's historical development? This visualization explores an alternate demographic timeline from 1800 to 2026, modeling how the religious composition could differ if one major religious community were absent. The scenario considers historical population patterns and demographic change while illustrating a fictional alternative to Kerala's actual history.

Sources: Census of India, Kerala government records, Wikipedia, historical demographic records, and other publicly available sources.

Note: This is a hypothetical alternate-history visualization, not a representation of Kerala's actual religious history or a prediction of what would have happened. Removing Islam from the scenario necessarily involves assumptions about population growth, migration, conversion, and other demographic factors. The results should therefore be viewed as an illustrative thought experiment rather than factual historical data.

LGBTQ Americans and Religion: How Has It Changed?

How has the religious landscape of LGBTQ Americans changed across generations? This visualization explores religious affiliation among the LGBTQ community in the United States from 1950 to 2026, covering Christian traditions, other religions, and people who identify with no religion. The timeline places these changes in the context of broader shifts in American religious life, social attitudes, identity, and generational change, offering a long-term statistical look at how faith and non-religious identity have evolved within the LGBTQ population.

Sources: Pew Research Center, Gallup, GSS, UCLA Williams Institute, and other publicly available demographic and survey sources.

Note: Reliable nationwide data specifically measuring LGBTQ religious affiliation are limited for earlier decades. Some historical figures may therefore be estimates or reconstructed from available surveys and demographic research. Definitions of LGBTQ identity and religious affiliation have also changed over time, so figures should not be treated as perfectly comparable across the entire period.

One year ago, StatPoint began with a simple idea - to turn data into stories that are easier to see, explore and understand.

Today, as we celebrate Vishwakarma Puja, we also celebrate 1 year of StatPoint.

Vishwakarma Puja reminds us of the value of skill, craftsmanship, creativity and the tools we use to build something meaningful. For StatPoint, our tools are data, research, charts, timelines, maps and visual storytelling.

From history and demographics to religion, geography, population, economics and global trends, this first year has been a journey of curiosity and discovery.

To everyone who has watched, followed, shared, commented and supported us along the way:

Thank you for your love and support.
