How did Turning Pages schools mark the 79th Independence Day?
The students wrote heartfelt cards for soldiers posted in Ladakh, expressing their gratitude for keeping them safeš
This happened after a read aloud of āRoad to Rezang Laā, a storybook where an army child learns about the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Indo-Chinese War!
Their lovely letters and cards are now with the bravehearts protecting the border in Ladakh!

What do students in a coastal town need the most? ā
During the monsoon, getting to school in Mangalore can mean walking through some pretty heavy rain. So when our partner school needed 130 umbrellas, the community stepped up!
A local stationery shop heard about the need and donated 60 umbrellas! And then dear Anu, our very own Turning Pages mentor at the school filled the gap by donating 50 umbrellas!

In 2026, with the generous support of Sonalika CSR, Turning Pages Foundation embarked on a meaningful partnership with Raje Shivaji Vidyalaya in Dharavi to help build a joyful and sustainable reading culture.
We began the academic year with a 3-day teacher booster training, introducing educators to the idea of creating a Whole School Reading Culture-where reading for pleasure becomes an integral part of everyday school life.
The objective of the training was simple yet powerful: to help teachers rediscover the joy of reading and experience the transformative power of stories. Because when teachers become readers, it isnāt long before students become readers too!
This marks the beginning of a journey towards classrooms filled with stories, curiosity, and children who read not because they have to, but because they want to.
Hereās to planting the seeds today that will grow into generations of joyful readers.

And now, The Better India has featured the inspiring journey behind it all - documenting Turning Pages, the brainchild of three sisters who co-founded the organisation and have spent years building joyful reading habits for children across India!

Can changing how children feel about books transform the future of education?
Three sisters are proving that it can.
Founded by Bunty Pai, Madhuri Pai, and Nayana Pai, Turning Pages Foundation is building a culture of joyful reading in underserved schools across Indiaās tribal, coastal, and low-income communities.
Since launching in 2020, the organisation has reached nearly 8,000 students, trained 150 teachers, and circulated 15,000 books across 12 schools in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh.
Instead of treating reading as another academic task, the foundation creates classroom libraries, daily DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) sessions, storytelling programmes, and teacher-led reading ecosystems that children genuinely look forward to.
At a time when national assessments show many Grade 5 students still struggle to read Grade 2-level text, this work highlights an important truth. Building literacy begins with building a love for reading.
