When city life meets rural reality, perspectives shift. 🌾
This Sunday, three amazing families from across Pune (Sinhagad Road, Baner, NIBM) joined us for Batch 6 of 'Ek Din Ka Farmer'. By pure coincidence, all three were "unschooling" families, turning the farm into a beautiful space for sharing both agricultural and educational journeys!
The day started with a massive reality check. While watching Sandeep Dada pack freshly harvested Dudhi (bottle gourd) for the market, the families asked about his pricing. When they heard the wholesale rate for an entire bucket, they were stunned, comparing it to the ₹20-45 they pay for a single piece in the city. That is the real farming lesson.
After a hearty traditional breakfast, everyone got their hands in the dirt. We warmed up with weeding, moved to harvesting Rajma plants, and carefully separated the beans. We shared a beautiful, authentic farm lunch (Bajra bhakri, Rajma sabji, Pithla) right in the fields.
The afternoon was all about sustainable science: learning about natural fertilizers, sowing spinach exactly where we harvested the Rajma (smart crop rotation!), and letting the kids hold live earthworms at the compost unit. We ended the day at the Praja home for evening tea and heartwarming reflections.
