Central Silk Board Organizes MRMA 2.0 Sericulture Awareness Programme at Niku Chak, Hajipur, Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), 08 August 2026: The Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, organized a Sericulture Awareness Programme at Niku Chak, Hajipur, Hoshiarpur, Punjab, under its flagship Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan (MRMA) 2.0 campaign. The programme was jointly organized by CSB-Regional Sericultural Research Station (RSRS), Miran Sahib, Jammu, under CSR&TI Pampore, in collaboration with the Sericulture Wing, Department of Horticulture, Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

The programme was attended by around 50 farmers, including progressive farmers, with the objective of promoting scientific sericulture practices, disseminating the latest sericulture technologies and strengthening sustainable livelihood opportunities through sericulture.

During the technical session, Dr. Rubia Bukhari, Scientist-B, CSB-CSR&TI Pampore (RSRS Miran Sahib, Jammu), provided technical guidance to farmers on improved sericulture technologies, scientific silkworm rearing practices, mulberry management, disease prevention and management, and measures for improving cocoon quality and productivity. Farmers were encouraged to adopt improved technologies and recommended practices at the field level.

As part of the programme, farm implements, including pruning saws, were distributed to farmers to support timely mulberry pruning and other farm management activities. The initiative aims to facilitate farmers in carrying out essential field operations efficiently and encourage the adoption of improved mulberry management practices for better silkworm rearing and productivity.

The programme also provided an interactive platform for progressive farmers and other participants to share their field-level experiences, challenges and suggestions related to sericulture. The technical queries raised by the farmers were addressed by the CSB scientists and departmental officials.

The programme was conducted under the coordination of Dr. Rubia Bukhari, with support and coordination from Punjab State Nodal Officer, Sh. Dalbir Singh, and District Nodal Officer, Hoshiarpur, Sh. Balwinder Singh.

Sh. Rafeek Singh, Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat Niku Chak, Hajipur, Hoshiarpur, attended the programme as a guest. Sh. Karamjeet Singh, Sericulture Promotion Officer, Ms. Shivani Chagti, Senior Sericulture Promotion Officer, and Sh. Sarbjit Singh, Senior Technical Assistant, CSB-RSRS Jammu, were also present during the programme and interacted with the farmers, discussing the present status, challenges and future prospects of sericulture development in Hoshiarpur district.

Private School Association Rajouri Opposes PWSNAT-2026 Order, Seeks Immediate Withdrawal

The Private School Association Rajouri has strongly opposed the recent order issued by the School Education Department regarding the dissemination and promotion of the Physics Wallah National Scholarship Test (PWSNAT-2026) among students of Classes 7th to 12th in Jammu Province.
Association President Abdul Rauf Dar, along with Senior Vice President Lokesh Bakshi and District General Secretary Kanav Badyal, while addressing a press conference have appealed to the School Education Department to immediately withdraw/cancel the order. The Association also urged the department not to issue such directions to private schools in the future.
The Association has called for a neutral approach by the department and urged authorities to avoid issuing instructions that could facilitate the promotion of private coaching institutes or scholarship programmes within school premises.
The order, issued by the Joint Director, School Education Jammu, directs Chief Education Officers and Heads of Institutions to disseminate information about PWSNAT-2026 among students. It also mentions scholarships, cash rewards, free education and accommodation, school-wise felicitation and other benefits associated with the test.
The Private School Association Rajouri has urged the authorities to reconsider the order in the larger interest of private educational institutions and students and ensure that no such promotional directions are issued to schools in the future.
The Association further expressed concern that sharing students' data with private coaching centres could expose students and parents to promotional approaches. It alleged that coaching centres may try to influence or persuade students and their parents to enrol in coaching programmes by using scholarships as an incentive, potentially leading to financial exploitation of unsuspecting families.
The Association appealed to the School Education Department to withdraw the order and maintain a clear distinction between school education and the promotion of private coaching programmes.
This version is better for Facebook because it clearly attributes the allegation to the Association rather than presenting it as an established fact.
