The first day of the 6-Day Inter-College Training Programme under the Project was focused on building a foundational understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction

The session introduced participants to key concepts including hazards, disasters, vulnerability, exposure, and capacity, and explored how these elements contribute to the creation and reduction of disaster risk.

The training also emphasised the importance of understanding risk at the community level and strengthening capacities for effective disaster preparedness and resilience.

The programme brings together students from four colleges across Shimla city and the HPU Department of Social Work to strengthen knowledge and encourage meaningful engagement in climate and disaster resilience.

Another institution joins us in advancing climate literacy, disaster preparedness, and youth-led resilience in Himachal Pradesh.

We are pleased to announce the signing of an with Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Chaura Maidan, Shimla, under Project - Climate Literacy and Action Programme.

Through this partnership, we will strengthen DRR Clubs in alignment with UGC-NIDM guidelines and empower students with practical skills for safer and more resilient campuses.

Together, we are building a more climate-conscious and resilient Himachal Pradesh.

On 19 August, students and faculty at St. Bede's College, Shimla, took part in a hands-on session on , and , facilitated by the HP SDRF team in collaboration with Doers. An exhibition of and equipment was also conducted by HP SDRF, familiarising participants with the equipment, tools, and resources available with the state’s specialised emergency response force.

As part of Project , the session also highlighted the role of in building a culture of preparedness among young people.

𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆!

was invited by the Department of , Himachal Pradesh University, to conduct the induction session for the newly admitted students of MSW and MA Sociology.

The session introduced students to the role of civil society organizations in development and provided insights into Doers' work across disaster risk reduction, community resilience, and sustainable development. The discussion also explored the growing role of technology in social work, the importance of continuous learning, learning by doing, emerging opportunities in the field of disaster management, and how volunteering can enrich both personal and professional growth.

One of our interns also interacted with the students, sharing practical experiences and reflections on the attitudes, skills, and values that are important for every social work student to cultivate throughout their academic and field journey.

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀!

On 25th July 2026, conducted two impactful awareness sessions at Loreto Convent School, Tara Hall, Shimla. One for students of Classes 6th - 8th and another for students of Classes 9th -10th. The sessions focused on emotional awareness, understanding and managing peer pressure, core values, coping strategies, legal rights and protections for children, and the importance of seeking support from trusted adults.

Through interactive activities and open discussions, students were encouraged to build self-confidence, make informed choices, and recognise the people and resources available to support them.

We sincerely thank the Principal and School Management for their warm welcome and continued support in making this initiative a success.

Under this initiative, we will work towards the establishment and strengthening of Disaster Risk Reduction Clubs in , aligned with the University Grants Commission - National Institute of Disaster Management guidelines, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and the HP SDRF
