In Kin

Our workshop has seen and felt the complexity and joy of making clothes for the little ones for the quite some time now. Maison madras is Archana’s brainchild solely born out of her desire to make fun clothes for her daughter, co-designed by and produced by us.

I have lost count of the number of calls we made discussing finishes, inventory, high points to bring these garments to life.

It took hundreds of messages, material lists, consumption sheets and months of sampling between Surat and Chennai. If we’re counting it right, it’s almost been two and a half years of creative collaboration and attentive work by everyone involved to bring this collection to life. It’s been a year since we rebranded as in kin. The name was a result of a felt evolution.
Following the language of self extension it was natural for us to find our identity in something expressed naturally too. We found ourselves hand drawing it as a signature, a mark.
The first hand-drawn script was a collaboration between our long-time kin and me, we then brought in a very talented designer who extended this further and gave us a mark in both latin and devanagari. The idea to gather, to be in company of our kin was also what guided how it manifested in motion, beautifully brought to life by
