John Type

John Type is a DJ, turntablist, composer, record producer and the inventor of MidiTablism (Controltablism), winner of the Skratch Kombat 2003 in Rome, runner-up at Red Bull Thre3style in Italy and 3rd place at DMC World DJ Team Championships 2008 in London, has various releases with Irma Records, Thisplay Music and Universal Records. With cutting-edge techniques and extraordinary musical culture, in the dancefloor is a leader of video mixing and mash-up, while in the studio is a master of sampling and midi sequencing. In over 15 years of his career he has performed in various clubs and festivals in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Since childhood he shows an extraordinary artistic flair: plays the piano, sings in a choir and draws illustrations. In the early 90’s embrace the Hip Hop culture becoming a graffiti writer in ’93, while in ’97 start his musical career as a turntablist. In 2000 he approaches to electronic music with beatmaking and the art of sampling. In 2001 he joined the band Alien Army, with which he released his first productions and early experiences of tour in Europe. Since 2004 is part of the jury in the competitions of ITF,DMC and Killa Skratch Kombat. In 2007 he founded the band John Type Ensemble, formed by bass, drums, keyboards, horns and turntable as the main instrument. The band performs live, the songs of Lunatic Decadence, his first solo album released in 2009 featuring international artists such as D-Styles and Mike Boo. Additionally since 2008 he works for five years with Negrita, one of the most successful bands in Italy, participating in the creation of two platinum selling records and several tours around the world. His extensive knowledge on technology and electronic musical instruments, led him to work for Vestax, italian artist for Ableton Live and video performances for Mixars and Pioneer DJ. Italiano:
John Type è un DJ, turntablist, compositore, produttore e l’inventore del MidiTablism (Controltablism), vincitore dello Skratch Kombat 2003 a Roma, medaglia d’argento al Red Bull Thre3style 2016 in Italia e 3° classificato ai DMC World DJ Team Championships 2008 a Londra, ha pubblicato dischi con Irma Records, Thisplay Music ed Universal Records. Con tecniche sempre all’avanguardia ed una straordinaria cultura musicale, nel dancefloor è leader del video mixaggio e del mash-up, mentre in studio è un maestro del campionamento e dellaprogrammazione midi. In oltre 15 anni di carriera ha performato in vari club e festival in Europa, Asia e Stati Uniti. Sin dall’infanzia mostra uno spiccato senso artistico: suona il pianoforte, canta in un coro e disegna illustrazioni. Nei primi anni ’90 si appassiona alla cultura Hip Hop, diventando graffiti writer nel ’93, mentre nel ’97 inizia la sua carriera musicale come turntablist. Nel 2000 si avvicina alla musica elettronica con il beatmaking e all’arte del campionamento. Nel 2001 entra a far parte della band Alien Army, con cui pubblica le sue prime produzioni e le prime esperienze di tour in europa. Dal 2004 fa parte della giuria nelle gare di ITF, DMC e Killa Skratch Kombat. Nel 2007 da vita alla band John Type Ensemble, formato da basso, batteria, tastiere, fiati e giradischi come strumento principale. La band esegue dal vivo i brani di Lunatic Decadence, il primo album da solista pubblicato nel 2009 con la parteciapazione di artisti internazionali come D-Styles e Mike Boo. Inoltre dal 2008 collabora per 5 anni con la band Negrita, partecipando alle registrazioni di due dischi di platino e svariati tour in giro per il mondo. La sua vasta conoscenza sulla tecnologia e gli strumenti musicali elettronici, lo hanno condotto a lavorare per Vestax, testimonial italiano per Ableton Live e video performance per Mixars e Pioneer DJ.
