Muscle thinking pulls on the shoulder. Fascia thinking changes everything connected to it. Now the shoulder is not being dragged into position. It has somewhere to move. And that difference matters because your shoulder is not suspended in space. It depends on the relationship between the arm, the shoulder blade, the ribs and the trunk. Muscle thinking asks, โHow can I stretch this shoulder?โ Fascia thinking asks, โWhat needs to move so this shoulder no longer has to do everything?โ Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
#3 tight neck: alternative movements. When you compare your own movement, keep the intention similar. Give yourself permission to report โno difference.โ That answer is useful too. You might notice less effort without more range. You might feel more confident about the movement. Or you might discover that this particular exploration doesnโt suit you. My courses use comparisons to support learning. There is no requirement to produce a transformation on cue. You are allowed an honest response from your own body, even when it is less exciting than the internet would prefer. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
Part #2 NECK PAIN/STIFFNESS
Your neck can tell you where you feel discomfort. It cannot, by itself, tell you why. To understand your pattern, look at the relationships: your head is supported by your neck, your neck connects with your rib cage, and your shoulder muscles have attachments across these areas. A change in how one area moves or supports you can change the demands on another. The place that hurts may be carrying extra work within that relationship. Thatโs a possibility to explore, not a cause we can diagnose from one movement. This is Part 2: understand your pattern. Tomorrow, weโll practise alternatives and give you a chance to experience those connections for yourself. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
Your neck gets your attention. Does it also get all the blame? When stiffness shows up, itโs tempting to decide immediately what needs stretching, strengthening or fixing. Give yourself a moment before choosing the solution. Start by observingโyou donโt need to explain everything you notice yet. Today is Part 1: identify your pattern. Tomorrow, weโll explore what that pattern asks of your neck. The day after, weโll practise alternative movements together. Follow along and give yourself these three steps: identify, understand, practise. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
A deep lunge can feel productive simply because it feels intense. But intensity and change are not the same thing. If the pelvis is fixed, the ribs are rigid and the whole body is bracing, you may be repeating the same strategy you are trying to change. Reduce the range, bring in the ribs, add a diagonal reach, and see whether the front of the body starts to behave as one connected line instead of one tight spot. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
Before adding resistance, know what you want to develop. More weight makes a movement more demanding. It doesnโt explain why you feel stiff or automatically give you more movement options. Start with two comfortable movements from this video. Notice whether you hold your breath, tighten everywhere, or rush through one direction. Can you make the movement smaller and more manageable? Then walk and compare. This exploration gives you information to guide your practiceโincluding future strengthening. Save it for your next break from sitting. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
What gets you out of the chair? Notice these two strategies:
1-Sitting far back, with your pelvis rolled backward: do you swing your upper body forward to generate momentum before you rise?
2-Sitting nearer the edge, with your pelvis more upright and your feet underneath you: does it feel easier to push through your feet and rise with your legs? Your legs work in both versions, and some forward lean is normal. A stiff lower back doesnโt automatically mean a weak back. How your hips, legs, pelvis, and trunk share movement and effort can contribute to the demands on your back over time. In Part 3, weโll practise those relationships - exploring how your lower body can participate in getting you up and moving. Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
My back is always stiffโ can become a very convincing headline. But does โalwaysโ mean after twenty minutes in the car, two hours at your desk, or every time you stand up? Those are different situations. For a few ordinary occasions, make a tiny note: what you were doing beforehand, roughly how long you stayed there, and what happened afterward. No spreadsheet required. Your body already has enough administration. This gives you something specific to discuss if you seek helpโand something more useful to work with than a permanent label about yourself.Persistent, worsening, or unfamiliar symptoms deserve individual assessment. A social-media observation cannot establish their cause.Your body is not broken. It is patterned. And patterns can change.
