Four Tuscan teenagers with guitars and a dream. In 1968, while the Mod scene was shifting gears, an all-female Italian Beat band named The Stars signed a contract for a tour in the Far East. They thought they were heading to Manila. They landed in Saigon during the Vietnam War instead. Daniela Santerini, one of the original musicians, documents this unbelievable journey in her book ‘Choi-oi!’. From provincial Italian clubs to playing raw 1960s Garage Rock amidst military bases, this is one of the most absurd and fascinating chapters of Italian subcultural history.
