SC025 — Gus Till ‘Rainsong’ 
 
Out today on Second Circle: a reissue of Gus Till’s ‘Rainsong’, presented alongside a new remix by Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi. 
 
Originally released on Japan’s Dakini Records in 2006, ‘Rainsong’ brings together many threads of Till’s remarkable musical journey, from Melbourne’s post-punk underground through ambient, house, trance and psychedelic electronica. Built around a pulsating bassline, layered live percussion and soaring vocal elements, the nearly thirteen-minute original unfolds with hypnotic rhythmic momentum and a rich sense of atmosphere. 
 
For the B-side, Kuniyuki Takahashi offers a deep and spacious reinterpretation, gradually reshaping the original into a richly textured meditation while preserving its emotional core.

Music From Memory is pleased to announce ‘Miraggi’, the debut album by Argento, a new project conceived by composer and producer David August. 
 
Taking the Mediterranean as both a real and imagined landscape, the album moves through organic percussion, electronics and spacious melodic forms, exploring memory, longing and a sense of place. Distant echoes of Italian library music, jazz fusion and Balearic ambience run throughout, while drummer and percussionist Lorenzo Setti’s performances help shape the record’s fluid rhythmic language. 
 
Developed through improvisation and live sessions, with the landscape of the Tyrrhenian Sea gradually entering the recordings, ‘Miraggi’ unfolds like an imagined soundtrack suspended somewhere between perception and memory. 
 
The first single, ‘Ritmi Marini’, is available now on all streaming platforms.  The full album is available to pre-order on vinyl via the MFM website and Bandcamp.

Marking the first in an ongoing series on Music From Memory, the two-track release explores immersive listening through mood, atmosphere and spatial depth. Across ‘Good Magic’ and ‘Clear’, hypnotic synthesizer arpeggios, gently floating pads and organic percussion unfold with patience and warmth, creating music that feels meditative, spacious and quietly absorbing. 
 
Developed through years of sonic experimentation, La Marr draws on ambient and environmental music, New Age, dub traditions, New Wave, Krautrock and HiFi sound system culture, bringing these influences together in a deeply personal and contemporary way.

MFM Mix 033 — Turn On The Sunlight

Following the recent release of ‘Iseo’, we’re pleased to welcome Turn On The Sunlight (aka Jesse Peterson) to the MFM mix series.

Conceived much like the sequencing of an album, the mix draws together music connected to the landscapes, memories and relationships that shaped ‘Iseo’. Alongside selections inspired by life on Maui are contributions from musicians who appear on the album and previous Turn On The Sunlight releases, creating a quiet dialogue between Hawai‘i and California that reflects Peterson’s own experience of moving between the two locations in recent years.

With the current heatwave passing through Europe, we are busy cooling ourselves down with ‘Iseo’, the new album from the aptly named Turn On The Sunlight, the long-running project of Maui-based musician and producer Jesse Peterson. 
 
Featuring an all-star cast of collaborators including Laraaji, Carlos Niño, Mia Doi Todd, Ko Ishikawa, Luis Pérez Ixoneztli and Miles Spilsbury, ‘Iseo’ unfolds through warm, immersive compositions where acoustic instruments, environmental textures and subtle electronics gently intertwine. Patiently balancing atmosphere, melody and rhythm, the album carries a tactile, open-hearted quality shaped by landscape, friendship and lived experience. ‘Iseo’ is a record that rewards slow listening, revealing new details with each return.

Following the release of his recent debut album ‘Spacious Heart’, Anthony Calonico contributes to the MFM mix series. A mix about which he says “...the piano is a thruline, glissandoing and echoing throughout, and there’s the sense of quiet, precise dynamic— reverent, with an inner glow and lots of ....space. Since its release last week, we’ve been spending a lot of time with Anthony Calonico’s beautiful debut solo album ‘Spacious Heart’.

Known to many as one third of Total Blue alongside Nicky Benedek and Alex Talan, Calonico steps into a more personal space here, balancing lush instrumentals with deeply felt songs carried by his warm and quietly expressive voice.

MFM084 - Anthony Calonico ‘Spacious Heart’ 
 
Today we release ‘Spacious Heart’, the debut solo album from Los Angeles-based musician Anthony Calonico. Known for his work as part of the trio Total Blue, Calonico steps forward here with a collection of songs and instrumentals that invite the listener into his lush, expansive and deeply personal world. 
 
Written and recorded gradually between 2020 and 2024, ‘Spacious Heart’ emerged through a slow and open process, allowing the music to develop without rigid expectations. The album’s sonic landscape sits in a somewhat similar zone to Total Blue, with warm keys, synthesizers and rich production creating spacious environments where melodies and textures open up naturally. ‘Spacious Heart’ effortlessly straddles the transcendental qualities of spiritual jazz, the restraint and space of minimal composers such as Harold Budd, and the quiet intensity and dynamics of songwriters like Mark Hollis and John Martyn, ultimately arriving at something wholly its own. 
 
Where ‘Spacious Heart’ diverges mostly clearly from Total Blue is through the presence of Calonico’s voice, the emotional anchor of the record. Smooth, luminous and quietly expressive, his singing carries a sense of earnestness and vulnerability while remaining delicately restrained. The album unfolds as a conversation between song and atmosphere, with vocal pieces drifting in and out of focus, intimate and inward-looking. The surrounding instrumentals open up space for these emotions to breathe, settle and expand, creating a world where feeling, texture and nuance move softly together.
