43,000 sqm renewed, 20 new trees, hundreds of new shrubs, over 100 bike racks and urban furniture — benches, chessboards, ping-pong tables. These are the numbers behind the entire “La scuola si fa città” project, and via Colombes is a living part of it. A city changing its habits, not just its surfaces. Because the real goal isn’t less asphalt, it’s living better in your own city.

43.000 mq riqualificati, 20 nuovi alberi, centinaia di nuovi arbusti, oltre 100 stalli per bici e arredi urbani — panchine, scacchiere, ping-pong. Sono i numeri dell’intero progetto “La scuola si fa città”, e via Colombes ne è parte viva. Una città che sta cambiando abitudini, non solo superfici. Perché il vero obiettivo non è asfaltare meno, ma vivere meglio nella propria città.

Milan is changing — but public space still remains on the sidelines.. Last week Andrea Boschetti and Arianna Piva joined the roundtables of Esplorazioni Urbane, the urban research lab promoted by Radical Flows together with Oneworks Foundation — a beautiful gathering of architects, activists, researchers and dreamers exploring thefuture of our city in BASE.
Six themes, countless ideas, one shared belief: Public space should shift from being leftover space to a central priority. Feeling at home in the city, having access to it, feeling safe to stay: those the key questions for the kind of city we want to help build.

routes designed for those who move slowly, and find a city that meets them halfway.

Intorno alla scuola, lo spazio si trasforma in una rete: sentieri ciclabili che si connettono,
superfici che tornano a respirare, verde che non è solo ornamento ma ecosistema. Un
pezzo del “filo” che tiene insieme le scuole e i luoghi pubblici della città — una ragnatela
di percorsi pensata per chi si muove lentamente, e trova una città che la incontra a metà strada.

Ravenna’s fish market: a space with its own distinct identity, shaped by light, materials, years of use — but above all by the people who inhabit it: volunteers, researchers, restaurateurs and cooperatives.
We came to observe, measure, and understand. Our intervention aims to be concrete and immediate, but also sustainable and effective in the long run.

Il mercato del pesce di Ravenna: un luogo con una sua identità precisa, fatta di spazio, luce, materiali, anni di utilizzo ma soprattutto delle persone che lo vivono: volontari, ricercatori, ristoratori e cooperative.
Siamo andati a vederlo, a misurarlo, a capirlo. Il nostro intervento vuole essere concreto e immediato, ma anche sostenibile ed efficace nel lungo periodo.

There is something humbling about marble — its age, its weight, its silence.
We spent a morning at Margraf’s factory near Vicenza, guided personally by Mr. Xompero through their world of stone.
Our studio, as you may know, designed the park at the entrance for the factory, so walking through it felt like coming full circle. And it got even better when we ended the day sitting down for lunch inside the space we created.
There’s nothing quite like experiencing a project you designed, from the inside, as a guest.
