Sometimes you write a song then it writes you 🎶.
“Jah Glory” a Raging Fyah tune I wrote and sang while we were active.. captured live for an Audio Tree Sessions performance. In these times, fear is loud and easy. Faith is quieter, harder, and worth more. No matter what’s shaking around you, there’s a stillness available if you choose it, your storms maybe real but never face them alone.
I don’t say that as someone who’s figured it all out. I say it as a musician who’s still learning, still humbled every time a song like this reminds me why I picked up a mic in the first place not for the applause, but for the message underneath it. Put the music first. Let it hold you the way it’s held me.
🔥🔥🔥
Jah Glory. 🙏🏾🇯🇲

Brown, Campbell, Williams, Smith, Reid the same surnames echo through every Jamaican community, most tracing back to colonizers and enslavers. In 1971, nearly half a million Jamaicans couldn’t read or write not because they weren’t sharp, but because education simply wasn’t widespread, reserved for generations for the elite, a direct legacy of slavery and colonial rule. Registration happened by hand, names spoken aloud, whatever the registrar heard became permanent. Jack became Jake. But this same generation ran farms, trades, and households entirely through memory and skill locked out of one specific kind of literacy, brilliant in every other way life demanded. That’s part of why the same first names still get passed down generation after generation today. Drop the most common name in YOUR family below I bet half of you share a name with somebody you’ve never even met. 🇯🇲✊🏾

In 1845, Jamaica opened one of the first railroads in the entire Western Hemisphere. Kingston had a full electric tram system by 1899. Then it all started disappearing the tramway shut in 1948, the national rail network survived decades longer (through the Kendal tragedy in 1957) before every single station closed on the same day in October 1992. A student rail pilot briefly revived service from 2022-2025 before funding problems shut it down again. Would you want the trains and trams back? 🇯🇲🚂
Honorable Mention : Black River, St Elizabeth, lit the first electrified house in Jamaica in 1893 before most American homes had power. I’ll do a presentation on this later on. 🙏🏿

Almost all of us know someone, or have someone in our own family, living with a vulnerability. Thousands of Jamaican teachers and nurses, my family among them.. are doing the work of trained specialists with none of the training, none of the resources, and often none of the pay to match it. Right now, many autistic and special needs children are placed in regular classrooms without proper support, alongside a documented teacher shortage and brain drain. This fight goes back to 1894, when the Jamaica Union of Teachers became the island’s first trade union. 130 years of fighting for this profession, and it’s still not finished. Big up every teacher and the wonderful nurses doing the impossible. 🇯🇲📚 fyp

Remember the Nutribun and the little half pint of milk at school in 🇯🇲. That program started in 1971 because malnutrition was the leading cause of death for Jamaican children under age 1 and by the late 1980s the milk supply dried up, right around the same time a 1992 World Bank loan condition wiped out local dairy farming. Bananas, coconuts, local shoe and garment manufacturing all took similar hits over the decades. Go back to the 1970s and you’ll find part of the root capital flight during the Manley years, fear of Cuba-style socialism, wealthy Jamaicans leaving with their money, weakening the economy right before the IMF and World Bank loans arrived with conditions attached. We didn’t lose our self-sufficiency by accident. It was policy, layered on policy. 🇯🇲 fyp

A mixed heritage 🇯🇲 Jamaican woman spent her own inheritance on abandoned boys and accidentally gave the world SKA. Jessie Ripoll, born in Jamaica shortly after emancipation, bought land in Kingston in 1880 and built a home for orphaned children. She later became the first Jamaican-born Sister of Mercy. In 1939, a 17-year-old named Marjorie Davies joined as Sister Mary Ignatius and ran Alpha’s music program for 64 devoted years. What came out of it: the founding Skatalites, Rico Rodriguez, Cedric Brooks, Yellowman, Leroy Smart, even horn players who later recorded with Bob Marley. Respect due. Jamaica 🇯🇲 has created an entire genres the world still dances to. 🇯🇲🎷 fyp
