“I was not born blind.”
Errol Blackwood grew up in St. Catherine running, playing, working, and living life like any other young person. Years later, he began experiencing discomfort in his eyes, including burning and irritation. Over time, his vision gradually worsened until he eventually lost his sight.
His diagnosis? Glaucoma.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, and early detection is critical. Regular eye examinations can help identify warning signs before significant vision loss occurs.
Hear Errol share his journey in his own words and learn why eye health should never be taken for granted.

However, continued enforcement, adequate funding, and accountability are essential to building an inclusive society.

Inclusion is not a feeling or a slogan.
It is a system.
It shows up in how information is shared, how support is provided, and how people are consistently included in decision-making.
When inclusion is built into systems, it becomes reliable, fair, and sustainable — not dependent on chance or goodwill.

Since the enactment of the Disabilities Act, public awareness has grown significantly, with more inclusion in planning, communication, and accessibility efforts.
While progress is being made, key areas still need attention—employment, access to education, and the built environment.
Let’s continue the work toward full inclusion.
