St. Catherine Local Sustainable Development Plan Project - LSDP

The St. Catherine LSDP commenced in July 2014 to create a parish development plan - "The Way Forward". It will emboss and boasts the vision of its locals.
Catherine Parish Council has recently undertaken the development of a local Sustainable Development Plan for the parish which is geared towards the fulfillment of Vision 2030 ideals through the establishment of a progressive local agenda. This project, which is expected to be completed by July 2016, requires multi-sectoral partnership and wide scale support to give birth to the growth and development of a parish rich in history and deserving of national pride. The project strategy endorses interactive community participation, stakeholders support from the civic, political, private, governmental and non-governmental entities and is aimed at achieving the following objectives:
1. Balanced and non-conflicting use of land
2. Establishing the base for revised and total boundary development order
3. Establishing a guide for development and developers
4. Creating a base for improved legislative enforcement practices
5. Good management of natural resources
6. To empower communities
7. To preserve the character of heterogeneous areas
8. Improve, protect and use our heritage areas
Thus far, the project has successfully gained the support of the Sugar Transformation Unit, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries which led to their committing Twenty Million Dollars ($20,000,000.00) over the life of the project.

With this summer heat upon us, the realisation of climate change is becoming more real to our little island. It is most important for us to take stock of how we do things - the simple things.
- Do not burn garbage at all
- Do not litter the streets or waterways
- Do not concrete your yards
- Plant and replant some more
- Recycle and reuse
These simple yet easy ways of reusing and recycling our waste can help us to be more waste-wise and by extension environmentally friendly.
