Climate change does not follow borders. Our response shouldn’t either. 🌏
Across ASEAN, countries are facing shared climate challenges that require more than good intentions.
Stronger laws, stronger institutions and regional collaboration can turn commitments into meaningful collective action.

National energy reform: still needed 🚧
Local governments: already taking action 👇
3 Philippine provinces are proving energy independence doesn’t have to wait on Congress:
🏝️ Iloilo → 43 LGUs developing local energy plans, backed by dedicated renewable energy budget appropriations
🏝️ Bohol → mapping renewable energy potential to guide planning for 75+ smaller islands
🏝️ Negros Occidental → incentivising battery storage to strengthen energy security
"Energy independence will ultimately be built from the ground up from thousands of local decisions made every day." — Hannah Chan, ClientEarth
And Day 3 of C.I.R.C.L.E. was all about putting ideas into action! 💡
Participants worked on real regulatory challenges, developing follow-up action plans and translating them into concrete regulatory proposals.
Then came the sn*******ng discussion: sharing, challenging, and building on each other’s ideas to uncover connections between sectors and spot what might be missing. It takes different perspectives working together to make policy more integrated and implementable.
We closed the bootcamp with a networking session, giving everyone a chance to keep the conversation going and build connections beyond C.I.R.C.L.E.
And that’s a wrap! 🎊
Day 2 of C.I.R.C.L.E. ⚡🌱
Building on Day 1’s conversations around climate science, policy and regulation, participants went deeper into what it takes to turn climate ambition into action.
The day brought together perspectives on climate data, Indonesia’s 2nd NDC, climate governance, carbon frameworks and climate finance, alongside an interactive role-play exploring negotiation in regulatory decision-making.
From understanding the evidence to navigating complex decisions, Day 2 highlighted that meaningful climate action takes collaboration, different perspectives and a willingness to work through challenges together.
🎥 Here’s a look at Day 2.
What do you think Day 3 has in store? 👀
Day 1 of C.I.R.C.L.E. ⚡🌱
Civil Servants for Clean Energy (C.I.R.C.L.E.), organised by ClientEarth and Think Policy, brought together civil servants working to shape Indonesia’s energy and climate agenda.
We kicked off with conversations on what it takes to advance a just and inclusive energy transition — from building trust and strengthening collaboration to translating climate science into effective policies and regulations.
Our lawyer, Endraswari Sayekti, also highlighted the important role civil servants play in shaping the policies, regulations and decisions that will help drive Indonesia’s energy transition forward.
🎥 Here’s a look at Day 1
Stay tuned for Day 2! 👀

🌊 What's in ASEAN's new Blue Economy plan?
The ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation Plan (2026–2030) is all about turning big regional commitments into real action. Two parts worth knowing:
👥 Human Capital: skills, training & ocean literacy for coastal communities, youth & women.
🤝 Social Capital: stronger regional cooperation & a shared index to track progress.
Real change needs strong legal frameworks behind it. That's where our work across Asia comes in, guided by our Asia Nature Strategy. 💙

Systemic change takes more than one actor. 🌍⚖️
In China, ClientEarth uses the rule of law to support change on climate, nature and environmental protection, working with institutions, legal practitioners and civil society.
For nearly a decade, multi-stakeholder partnerships have been a distinctive part of our approach in China, helping to strengthen legal systems and drive change at scale.
From environmental law to finance, energy, oceans and ecosystem governance, see what this looks like in practice 👉

What drives meaningful environmental change? 🌏
It starts with bringing people together.
This August in Indonesia, regional partners came together to exchange knowledge on strengthening legal frameworks for social forestry. We also marked the beginning of a new partnership with Climate Policy Initiative Indonesia, strengthening our shared commitment to evidence-based climate action and a just energy transition in Indonesia.
These moments may look different, but they are connected by a common purpose. Strong environmental governance is built through collaboration, shared expertise and partnerships that continue long after an event ends.
Because meaningful change doesn't happen overnight. It grows through the relationships we build and the work we do together.
Shared knowledge. Stronger partnerships. Lasting impact.

A circular economy is more than the bin ♻️
It is about extending the life of products and materials through reuse, repair, refurbishment, sharing, and recycling.
But real change needs more than individual action. Strong policies, responsible producers, better systems and collaboration across government, businesses and communities are what make circularity work.
Because every place has different needs. Circular solutions must fit local realities.
Global lessons. Local solutions. Lasting change.
